Max HP is 30 unless you pay to strengthen the transom.Look at the max weight of a 30hp as there maybe a 40 hp the same weight - the only problem is then getting insurance.

I had a 25hp merc sea pro on mine, it was stolen off the back a couple years ago,i replaced it with a 30hp yamaha and its a far better motor. with full casting decks batteries and gear, i can get about 48km/hour out of mine.

I know that with some 2 strokes you can replace the carbiretor with a larger one and in turn the horse power will go up but i think if you do something like this the cowelling may not fit, not 100% sorry.

Possibly trade your current motor in for a 30hp 4 stroke (the extra money you spend you will make back in the long run on fuel)

Have you spoken to solas or similar about what a prop upgrade could benefit you with? They may have something that will pick up top end but possibly sacrificing lower range.

What sort of speed do you actually get at the top end mate? I cant see another 5hp making a huge difference at all.

I have a 30hp Suzuki on my 425 Edgetracker, with 3 people and all the gear (batteries, leccy etc) we can do 23 knots top speed which is pretty respectable, if you are getting close to 20 knots I doubt you will gain alot. Maybe as suggested try find a new prop, or you can play with the trim, that made a huge difference to speed and handling for my boat.

I wouldn't go 4 stroke either if you want more speed, the extra weight will eat up all the hp gains very quickly.

I would just staywith the 25hp if its a option, you wot get that much more out of it.

building up the transom and putting a big motor on is not a good idea. the transom isnt the only part of the boat that will cop a hammering
