my mate left his rod in his car with the tip of the rod bent over by the back of his seat and it has been bent ever since!! its a cheap rod but, it was left like that for a week or so in some pretty hot days so i think the heat may have a factor! besides that i have no idea haha

bent rods

excessive heat will cause the rod to "set" in a new shape, You could try and duplicate the process by using a hairdryier to see if you can straighten the rod out but you would have to evenly distribute the heat which will not be easy,or when it gets over say 36dec place the rod onto a flat surface outside for a couple of days to see if the high temps have reset the rod into its straight lenght again.

Hmm. This is all very interesting. I was just thinking the ohther day about how temprature would affect the resin in rods and if it would affect the action at all but I din't think it would leave a rod bent. Just out of curiosity, has any one seen or heard of this happening to graphite rods?

graphite

I have not seen it in graphite rods but it seem to efect mostly glass rods as I have 3 that this has happened to over the years, I might test it out on a graphite rod to see the results( old broken one) and I will post results for comment.

Which way is it bent?

Put a spin on it and tie line through the guides , lock the drag and wind it until the rod is arched the right way.

If it's bent the other way, do the same thing but with an overhead reel as the guides are facing towards you instead of outwards like a spin would.

Might work after a while, if you put it in the heat again?

Just a suggestion.
