The feeling shaft models mentioned are designed for light egingu and designed to catch Naory Squid, Naory squid are the little one's you get in a box in the bait shop. Not much chop on the Southern Calamari that grow to 4kg+ or for casting anything bigger than a 2.5 size jigs and 2.5 sized jigs are a thing of the past or for bait collectors.
Would be easier to point you in the right direction if I knew your budget, The Samurai Reaction Multi Taper ML are nice for lighter egi to size 3.0, I have about 12 egi rods but always on hand I have a Daiwa Emeraldas 86ST guided model (interline = yuk) on hand as it suits almost all applications, I also have 2 feeling shafts when looking for snapper or King live baits but most of my collection are Gan Craft Violence Jerks in various models. Many egi rods in the Australian market are just a spin rods painted with low ride guides, this includes the ones designed from some of Australia's most well known rod builders so dont get sucked in, just because it says egi on it does not make it egi functional or friendly.

I use the Megabass Caiyen XOR 78L and it's fantastic for all size jigs from 2.0 to 3.5 but does notice the weight of the Gancraft UOJYA 3.5's a bit more than other 3.5 size jigs.
That said, I do use Harimitsu BB and Evergreen 4.0's on this rod and granted it isn't the perfect blank for these ultra heavy jigs it does the job! It also handles 7" jerk shads and 3-4kg Snapper ok lol. I was until recently going to buy a heavier stick for the heavier jigs but went the other way and purchased a Smith Squid Hearts 78L ans I can use this as a whiting rod also! I'd be listening to EcoFreak though mate as he is probably the Country's leading squid expert, I've been to his seminars and they are very insightful! Those Samrai rection rods are probably the best looking Egi rod on the market IMO.... Cheers, Brian. |

really depends on how much you are willing to spend ... and will you ever be using the rod to throw anything over 2.5 sized jigs???
I use breaden SWG SPICE 86 widerange/longcast and SWG 86 shallow/longcast also a Heartyrise egiforce type B 8'3" the breadens are amazing and I dont really use anything else now that I have them.. but the heartyrise is also a top rod for the price and I rate it highly. the yamaDohDohDohDoha feeling shaft (I was going to buy one also) is a little light for my liking , also I tend to use jigs ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 and as mentioned the yama is for small naory squid and small jigs so I went for something heavier. also use the search function, there is some helpful info regarding eging rods. cheers

Have a Hearty Rise Egi Force Type B and cant complain. Unbelievably its a 8'3" that balances with a 2000 certate. Cast a 3.5 quite comfortably.
