custom rods

hey just got a daiwa black labell and its an awesome rod but think i need something custom to get the specs i want. Are all custom rods really expensive? can you get custom rods made that are around 250-400 or not?

Yes you can BUT you may not get top quality guides, seat and blank. Costs to builders is a lot more than the big companies and nobody wants to work for free to try and match them.

$400 should buy you a good stick for bream.

the specs are the rod will be used to throw lipless cranks and blades and hardbodies for jack lures like tn60-70 dekum 70mm blades and transamms on the heavy end of the scale. the river i fish has some big threadfin and barra so needs some backbone just in case lol but manly used as a jack rod

TN 70 is 18g or 5/8oz 70mm blades are similar, so you want a blank with a cast weight that covers this in its scale.

What length do you want the rod? (longer for longer cast and line management, but will act as a lever against the angler or shorter for more accurate casts close to structure and better for taking the fight to stubborn fish).
Do you want a rod with a fast taper (lighter tip and locks up faster)
or a more progressive taper, (bends further into the rod)

What poundage of line do you fish?

I build my own rods and this is what I think about when I'm selecting a blank for a purpose.

I would give Steve Duff a call, I am sure he can build a rod to your budget (or close to). That should give you an idea between an off the shelf rod and a custom rod.
