Unhappy Plaited Double!

Just scored myself a Shimano 2000 Charter Special with Lever Drag. Got it for nicks! I spooled it with 5.5 KG Maxim and mounted it to my 6.6 FT Silstar Diamand Tip rod. I had the rod sitting round so I thought I'd use it.

Do you guys think that it would be suitable for bream? Im more interested in using hard bodies, like perhaps the Halco Twister slices. Or perhaps a couple of 70 Gram Luhr Jensens I had sitting round in the silver/blue colour!

Seriously...It aint for bream! (Like you didnt Know!!!)

What Id like to know is how you guys do your plaited doubles. I do them but they dont seem to work! The knot itself doesnt pull together neatly, although I am keeping the tension on as I plait. And one time the knot actually slid down to cause the double to shorten!!

Im following all the instructions in the Wilson book of knots!

Where can I find an illustrated version of that rizzotto finish knot everyone talks about???

Hey jocool

when you say plaited double, do you mean a bimini? Cos i dont understand what the deal with biminis being hard to tie is....I think that they are as easy as!

for the rizutto finish knot, just do a google search (www.google.com.au). I did that and found illustrated instructions. I think they were from harrisons website.

Matt, he means a plaited double. This is an alternative to a bimini and is popular in gamefishing circles. It's tied the same way as you would plait hair.

Jocool, the rizzuto instructions Matt mentioned are here

http://www.harro.com.au/jn/journal.c...r=howto&next=2

Another way to do the same thing using a scrap of line as a pullthrough (less fiddly in my opinion) is here http://phuketclassified.com/thaifish...ist_steps.html

With a plait, it is probably just as good to finish it off the way geoff shows in his book.

I'm not sure why you are having trouble with the plait, I don't think it can be explained any better than how Geoff Wilson does it in his book. Just make sure you keep tension on at all times (especially at the start). With braid you really have to keep it tight or it will slide down. Try making a longer plaited section if you are having trouble with sliding. Up to 2-3 inches long. You should go longer in braid than in mono as there is no stretch to pull it together and it is so slippery.

Cheers
James.
