Propeller pitch
While my boat performed fine with just me aboard and OK with two passengers; once the live well was filled (another 100kgs) it tended to struggle to get on the plane.
Added a foil and raised the motor which helped a bit but still wasn’t quite there. A visit to Just Propellers and a new prop with a lower pitch and what a difference – absolutely no dramas, straight up on the plane in a blink and a lower planning speed. Even tried with two up, full live well and into the sea breeze – no problem. If you are having any difficulties in this area I recommend calling Michael Constantine at Just Propellers and he will be able to assist. He took the time to listen to what I was saying, answer any questions I threw at him, asked some pertinent questions himself and then made a recommendation. No hard sell! Take the time to do some research yourself then pay Mike a visit – excellent service. Sorry if this sounds a bit like product promotion or advertising (I have no vested interest), I am just trying to assist those of you who may be experiencing performance (boat that is) problems.

Finally got you there. Told you it would make a difference. The single biggest problem with 'AS DELIVERED' boats is a lot are delivered with cheaper ali props.
A better suited prop for your outboard will make that much of a difference. Mike has been a wealth of knowledge to me over the last 12 months and with his permission we'll be passing on a lot of these tips via the DohDohDoh mag. Go and see your prop local specialist and tell him your woes. You won't look back.

Hey Craig
have you noticed much of a drop in top end speed? i have the opposite problem to you in that my pitch was too low and i was getting the same top end speed with 2 up and 180L gear etc as i was with just one person and nothing in the wells... getting the prop changed as we speak... picking the boat up from millards next week before the comp so i cant wait to see what difference it would make... cheers Ev |

I don't have a speedo or GPS to actually measure the top speed and while the theory is that it should drop I think (feel) that the engine is actually reaching its true rev range and the loss of top end speed is marginal. Then again I don't often travel with the throttle wide open, usually I cut back to 3/4 throttle as there is less stress on the whole unit (boat, engine and driver). Being able to plane at lower speeds and have more responsive acceleration is far more useful to me than a high top end speed. But I guess, it is all about finding that balance between the two that suits you. Good luck and let me know how you go - we can catch up at the next comp for a chat.
