Dobyns Rods

Gday guys,

Looking at buying a Dobyns Champion Extreme (DX 701C) rod from the states,
as they are pretty hard to find locally I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with the brand?

I have a feeling its going to be a cracker rod, just seeing if anybody else knows something I dont

Cheers!

Tackle Warehouse at Coorparoo has them now, pretty much the whole range. Some very nice sticks in the range. Prices from approx $199-$550 from memory.

Thanks guys, tacklewarehouse gave me the idea to look at them but the one I'm chasing I can get delivered from the US $200 cheaper than buying here. I buy all my gear there and have a good relationship with the guys there but the saving from buying o/s is just to good!

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to let you know that any Dobyns rods not bought through our Australian authorised resellers will not qualify for our Australian warranty program.
And will have to be sent back via the USA, and your place of purchase.

I know there are some differences in prices and we are trying to work through some of the costs of importing the rods with Dobyns to reduce the prices here for you guys , but i still think that there are good value at the current retail $$

I fail (still) to comprehend the gross markups put on imported US items by the supply chain here in Australia. Everyone wants to make a buck out of the poor fisho. That is why OS is and will remain the best option for most of us.

Buying two rods, one for a spare, is still cheaper than buying here!

The EJ Todd warranty "No-fault Warranty program: all Dobyns rods purchased from an Australian retailer come with an unconditional warranty for the life of the original registered owner. No matter how you break it, we will replace it with a brand new rod for $150 incl GST. To activate your warranty upon purchasing your Dobyns rod..." is the same as the US one which is $60. Why is is it so much dearer in Australia?

US warranty; "If you need to get a replacement rod immediately for that fishing trip tomorrow, simply take the damaged rod to your local Dobyns Rods dealer and pay them the $60 replacement fee. They will keep your damaged rod and give you a new, same model rod in return. No questions asked, no shipping, no waiting or wondering about warranty claim charges".

Mate regardless of who makes money where, these rods are very very nice and deffinatly worth what the retail for here. I did get mine from os, but it was a hassle and put me off buying os in future, but due to being a poor uni student the saving was to much to go past. If I had the spare coin I would have happily bought it local, and will be getting more of these rods in the future. It is now my favourite rod and I rate it without a doubt better than my samurai. Anybody considering one of these, get one, they will not dissapoint!

I have been lucky I guess and had no issues with buying from the US. I will continue to support local dealers when the prices are competitive. I recently bought two Rarenium's and a Daiwa Alphas R locally. Rods it appears are another matter. I bought my Kistler, Qantum, and St Croix's OS for well under comparable Oz retail. I am happy.

Good luck with your Dobyn's. I read they are a great rod

I think the Dobyns Extreme may be on run-out (or will be soon). They are 220 USD before shipping from Cabelas... down from 320.
