Okuma Avenger 20
Hi,
i decided to drop into a fishing tackle shop to take a hand on look on what the Avenger 20 was like. And the one at the shops was more shiny, it just looked different compared to the ones on breamaster store.. The one i saw at the tackle shop, looked like this. http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/notorios/av20.jpg The one Breamaster and Okuma Have look like this. http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/notorios/avenger.jpg - Are they different because the one i saw today was an older model? - the AV20 pic shows the rell handle is on the left, can i change it to the right side? cause i like my handle on the right. - Which Okuma AV reel you reccomend, for a 6 lb fireline line, the AV 15, or AV 20. - Is the Okuma Avenger Series Saltwater reels? - Is the Okuma Avenger 20 a 2000 series or 1000? Thinking about purchasing this AV 20 reel, cheap, good and comes with 5 years warrenty. Let me know please, since im a bit confused. Thanks Last edited by chopper; 03-11-2003 at 04:50 AM. |

I have an AV15 and after loading 125 yards of 4 lb fireline you have too much line on the reel. I think that the 6 lb would be too much. Having said that I have a Squidgee 6'6" with the AV15 and I find it great. Bob |

Thanks for that info mate
i just placed an order from this site for an Avenger AV20, Gamsku 1/8th 1/0 jigs, and Berkley 2" pumpkin seed SP. Can wait for my order to come in, ill test out my new outfit and SP this weekend ![]() - one thing regarding the line; okuma website states the AV20 as 2kg/140m 3kg/100m 4kg/70m im suggesting 2kg = 4 lb, 3 kg = 6 lb and 4 kg = 8 lb Now, if my fireline is 114 m long, can i directly put it on the Reel? or the diameter is really small so i still need mono backing? IF i need mono backing, how many metres worth you guys think? Thanks Last edited by chopper; 03-11-2003 at 09:22 PM. |

Okuma Avenger 20
Chopper,
I am running 4 lb Fireline on my AV-20, and I have put spooled up about 1/4 of the spools capacity with 6lb mono backing (Platypus Platinum). Now, I am now expert in the field, but this combination of line diameters and capacities is working very well for me. Also, the Avenger AV-20 is a great little reel that, most importantly, does not break the bank. For a novice like myself, it was an awesome buy. Hope this info helps. Cheers, Shamilton |

I also have a AV20, great little reel, especially for the price. The 2" Berkley Powergrubs are great as well but I personally feel that 1/8 jig heads will be a bit big for this plastic and will impede the action a bit. Having said that I don't know the water you are fishing, they may be alright for a very fast moving current so you can get the lure down to the fish. I myself and I belive most people fish with 1/16th heads or even lighter ir there is no current. Generally I believe the lighter the better JMHO. Tim |

thanks for that info mate, yeah, when i ordered from this site, the bream master sales guy rang me about a certain purchase issue, and also told me i should use 1/16th Size 2 hooks, which is a better size for the grubs, and thats what i got now. Berkley 2 inch pumpkin seed, with Gamakatsu size 2 1/16th jig. |
