I've had loads of success using softies at night. I use small dark grubs and scent them up. Try shallow flats on the last couple hours of the runup. I reckon the fish use the darkness feed off flats that would be to dangerous during the day. I've managed big bream, whiting and trevally plus an assortment of standard flathead in between.

I certainly have, moreso lately than in daylight. I'll let ya in on a little secret, I'm currently using a plain white 2" grub I found at the local tackle shop on special. At night it outfishes every other grub 2 to 1, for me it does anyhow, I dont know of anyone else using it. I can't remember the brand but it was really cheap, like $4 for a packet of 50.

Cheers,
Gab.

I have fished quite a bit at night with SP's, unfortunately without much success. I've used darker and natural colours. Obviously my next attempts will be with some white and bright grubs/worms, etc.

Gday

I caught a few around the narrows (in Perth) ages ago on white plastics. Forgot the brand though.

Cheers

I am yet to catch a Black Bream on softies at night, but have been getting quite a few Tarwhine though. Again, on white coloured softies... namely Atomics blue/purple pearl ones, and some generic single tails I have in white with a red tail (kinda reminds me of those strawberry cream lollies!).

Blacks definitely the go at night for me too. Even with hardbodies like the black R2S or a semi dark like the Oargee JG.

Im pretty new to the SPs fellas, but Ive heard that the brighter colours work well in dirtier water or at night. They provide a better silhouette of the "bait" from the bottom.

I generally use the bloodworm or silver fox in clear or well lit water, and Ill try the brighter ones when I go out one night.

Hi,
White might be good for an SP fished close to the bottom but, for shallow running HBs at night, where fish will be seeing the lure from below, I think you'll find matte black gives a much better slhouette. Sounds strange but all my surface lures for night fishing are matte black.
Cheers,
Rigzz.

ive been using the Berkley Bass Minnows in 3" at night with great success in the charteuse and blue pearl colour.. have caught bream to 38cm, big flathead, whiting, trevalleh and estuary cod and dropped a few jacks.. doesnt really matter what colour you use, its all about presentation and giving off a good action, since most fish cant see too well at night, but better then we can, most of there hunting is done via there lateral line which allows them to feel and "sense" a wounded fish.. or.. your lure which your making act like a wounded fish or prawn or some other live bait

after going to the breamin' workshop last night i learnt that u should try and use a plastic with as much noise like an ecogear pad tue, you could also use some thing like a storm rattlegrub.

thanks, brody

tides

if you fish at high tide its great as the large fish are able to feed at places not acessible in the day. all ya gotta do is fish a light or noticeable sp and you should get a few fish
