Shortest possible butt on a flick stick

Hello,

I've been contemplating cutting my 6'' butt off my rod down to virtually nil.

I just feel that sometimes the butt of a bream rod that is cast hundreds of times in a breamin' session can get in the way.

Has anyone else done/tried it?

I don't wont to ruin a good rod if theres some bleeding obvious reason why I should not do it....but can't see it.

I'll be interested in what others say about a bream rod with no butt.

Jim

I have a Heartland X which I cut down to 4cm from the bottom of the reel seat to the butt. Feels great and I plan to do my other rods when I get the time.

What tools did you use?

I am in desparate need of a shorter butt on my loomis and can't bear to be apart from it for too long so getting a rod builder to do it is out of the question.
What do you need to do it, I have a hack saw is that too viscious?
Cheers Geoff

You'll find that a lot of rods can have this done very easy. They simply have a rubber stopper glued to the end. I did this to my Synergy with no troubles at all.

I did the same

Pull off old butt-cap (warming it up helps)

Cut handle to size (fine tooth hacksaw)

Re-shape handle to take cleaned out butt-cap

Glue it on

Easy

(I just realised how much I like saying 'butt-cap'...lol....)

Cheers,
