Rod selection

Last minute purchase decision: i am heading to the states and was considering buying a bream stick while there. Questions: Are the savings sufficient enough to justify carting / breakage risk? If its a matter of $50 on a $250-$300 rod i would prefer to keep the $$ in Aus.
2nd Question: Any suggestions for a light rod used mostly landbased for light HBs and Sps for bream on flats/shallows in the Sydney Inner West.
Cheers guys

i know it is about 120 to cart a 1piece rod from the states to aus, so 2 piece woudl be significantly cheaper and i would insure it aswell, as for the rod i would look for something 7'' or above and something in the 1-3kg class,
Loomis may be cheaper from the states however u will just have to look when your over there i guess.. i dont know what other brands would be us based so check out some bass shops or get onto basspro.com and browse there range....

cheers

my suggestions is narrow it down to a handful of "potential" rods. find the cheapest price you can here then when your os compare the prices if you can find it. get a rod tube and bubble wrap and check it in when you return make sure you mark it as fragile.

Grub, I travel o/s regularly for work & have brought back obscure size items, ask the airline if you can have the rod put into the cabin hold similar to where they keep passenger jackets & airline staff bags. You will still need to get it packed properly to ensure it does not get broken. If you can do this, easy way to bring back if you make up a rod tube with a screw lid for security to check. Best thing is to get a 2 pce, it is a lot easier.
like Namyau suggests, know what you want & how much it is here & also convert into US$ before going. Currency converter - www.xe.com/ucc/
Happy shopping
