Getting new cork grips

Hey guys,

wondering how hard it is to get new cork grips on a rod with worn down cork grips, thinking about putting new corkies on my breaming rods, as they are getting older and a bit tacky

who can do it? is it a hard process and approx price

cheers guys

i cant imagine it would be easy, you would need to break down the epoxy a without ruining the blank... :~

I wouldnt try it your self, speak to perrie (hotrods) he will have the best idea

cheers carra

Yeah, could be a bit of a crazy task. Traditionally you would need to remove the cork that is epoxied on using hard tools - like a knife and a file - and then remove the guides. Usually you size the hole in the cork to be narrower than the width of the blank where it will fit, and then slide it on from the tip and epoxy in place. Keeps everything nice and snug and best chance for best overall fit.....
....however, there may be some guys out there who have done it the other way, but it might be a bit hard to get a really nice neat finish.
The taper of the blank would affect this too.....
... I wouldn't do it without taking the guides off. That's actually not too hard. But it ends up being a total rebuilt....

im getting my tcurve done as the cork has started to split near the reel seat, fishyman is doing it for me and i am more then confident in his work. hardest part is waiting for parts to come from jp. from what tom has told me its quite an easy job and not that expensive either. im turning it into split butt section with eva grips instead of cork. ill post some pics when its finished.
