New G. Loomis

Hi There,

I am looking at adding another G. Loomis fishing rod to my collection.

Am looking to buy one to use for breaming, flicking plastics, hardbody's around, finessing.

What would you recommend..I am only looking at G. Loomis.

Thanks
Dan.

Either a SR842-2 or DSR820S in GLX. Take your pick depending what you want out of the rod.

Use the search functionality to find out more about them.

If finessing is what your after I really wouldn't be throwing around a hb unless it was a vibe. I had the SR841-2 and love the blank, but not much interested in the rest of the build. Getting a custom done on the same blank with a grip I want with sic guides. Should be ideal for what you're looking at.

Rolling up an S781 IMX right now. Sweet blank, light, with deceptive power. I do believe it's new owner (Brian, our US Ranger) will be using it for finesse plastic and light HB's as well.

The 841-2 Bear recommended should be right on the money.

Thanks Fellas, ended up getting a DSR 8200 IMX. Casts light lures very well. They have moved the first guide up the rod compared to my DSR820

Hey Bear, are you getting your 841-2 rebuilt, or did you manage to conjure a blank out of the ether?

Sold the 842-2, but getting one built up to what I want. Love the blank, just not the way Loomis build them. I'll post pics once finished.

Sweet. Was considering that one as well, but too many $$$ just to cut it up and strip it down.

Another fan of Loomis blanks here.. just wish they put decent components on their rods.
Considering your paying $600+ for some of them. Alconites just dont cut it.

Hahaha Perrie!

Too much bloody work and hassle, especially after shelling out Aussie price. Just that much more time before you can get it done up and fish it. Having done quite a few strip downs and rebuilds, they are always a royal pain in the a$$! No denying the final job is heaps better, but I now take on rebuilds with care. Full strip down only if the blank is worth it.

Costs more too..... If you're gonna go high end then budget accordingly, and get a decent one built to your specs, rather than make do with a sloppy effort and cheaper components just for a name. Now I know not everyone can afford a custom, or budget to put high end components on a good blank, but that's what compromise and doing your homework is for. Set a max. budget, check out some rods, then look at blanks and components. Weigh up your options, talk to people in the know.

oh so you LOVE doing rebuilds..goodo..ill send you some up then ! hahaaaaaa

back on topic..as nabs stated, the price here in Aus is up there thats for sure, but for a standard DPS seat and 'yaaaawn' square cork on most models...hummm you do pay a lot for the name and the import...
nothing wrong with Alconites...find any company doing base model bream rods for the Aussie market that doesnt DARE use them now days...tis a nice bencmark for a quality guide at a great price...

Depending on you desired budget Dan i would find a model that suites your needs and if your not entirly happy with the components weigh up the cost of the factory rolled vs a custom on the same blank and see what the difference is and if its worth it...either way your still getting a loomis...

Alconites make a good base model guide. Good performance, but not great corrosion resistance. Would love to see the chrome finish offered as an option for builders: more and more of them on factory rods here these days. There are alternatives......homework man, homework.

Standard DPS seat, crappy cork, ugly butt caps........"yaaaaawwwwnnn" why even bother looking? And Dan already got the IMX dropshot. Pimping that one out would be a full rebuild, and it's 1 piece......ouch!

I LUURRRRVE rebuild with a passion....NOT! It's hard work. I love a satisfied customer's face afterwards though. Delivered a repair/rebuild last night to a mate who'd snapped the rod a couple weeks back. Stripped it down, cleaned up the break, fitted a new ferrule, respaced the guides, test cast, load test, and wrapped it all in black, simply because he needed the rod for his trip to Vanuatu. He left this morning with fly rod and 3 piece (now shorter and stiffer) spin rod all packed away with a massive michievous grin on his face.

I just know I'll have that rod back when he gets back....
