shimano raider 7'6" 2-4 kg

are these rods good? they're on sale for $90 at my local tackle store, i'm a shore based fisher so i'm thinking the length will help with my casting distance. are there any rods better than these in the $100-130 range?

Pflueger Trion 7 foot 2-4kg with the long cast/split grip design...the beaut!!
At 7' 6'' i find the Raider is a bit heavy in the tip with a 1000 sized reel but to contradict this use a 2500 sized reel for the extra weight.

as to your question the raider is a sweet lil rod have owned a couple of these and you will definatley like the extra length cast 1/32 and 1/16th a mile nice flexi tip with plenty of guts down low for $90 you cant go wrong .

Thumbs up

For $90 they are a great buy - good rod, great value. And for land-based you'll find the extra length a blessing.

That rod is a sweet little number, albeit with a couple downsides. The handle is too short, and, like the other Raiders, the SBS 16 seat is a little too slim for my liking.
For such a long rod, and the fact that it is best suited for open water work, a longer handle will balance better, with whatever reel you put on it.

Just my 2c.

I find the 7'6" Raider's a bit sloppy. When you cast the whole blank flips and flops instead of a nice crisp casting action that I like.

Yer, Heres the grip pic.
In the photo theres a 1500 symetre. Found it Great. But ended up downsizing to a Pflueger Trinity, very cheap reel ($59.99) so i could put the symetre on a g.loomis.
but very light reel and can take a beating. Perfect combo for casting sx-40 and light plactics.

Its in my avatar also^ so it can take a descent fish. LOVE the split grips!

i had a Raider 2-4kg and have got 50cm trevally on it, so they are pretty strong rods. They're a good rod for the price.

g'day MacCampbell,
the raider is a very good buy at 90 bucks, i've used the 7'6'' raider for shore based breaming for the last year and i am very pleased with it.
the extra casting distance is awesome! you can cover so much ground.
and it will cast lighter lures/jig heads ok.
in my opinion, the short but is a good thing, i hate a long but that gets in the way all the time.
and as craig.c. said, they have alot of power in the but also, i've even landed a fairly sizable skate with mine!
i don't think you will find a better buy for a shore bashing rod.

cheers, ben.
