Same for Moreton Bay, in SE Qld, and I can tell you, that the conservation groups don't need hard science to support their recommendations - they just SOUND like they are talking sense, they are politically astute and highly experienced, professionally organised and well-funded. Compared to them, to fishing groups over here are struggling to remain unified, are not able to achieve the same share of voice in the media, and many people talk about how we should do something about it NOW, but it often never eventuates.
I sent to our Queensland Fishing Monthly magazine a list of email addresses for every State Member of Parliament, including the Premier and the Environment Minister, asking for the list to be extended to readers to assist them in getting around to emailing/writing to their relevant member. This hasn't been printed, and my email was never acknowledged or replied to, yet the magazine keeps begging/demanding we all "take action" now, before our waterways are closed to us in an environemtal review next year. We have lost about 1/3 of the Great Barrier Reef to rec fishing, most of fishable Byron Bay has been closed off to us... these envrionmental groups are serious and effective - you probably don't want to take them lightly.

I think the WA Govt obviously have a thing against coppers and recreational fishers.
Another good reason for everyone to support (= join) Recfishwest. We have a great team there, trying to look after recreational fishers, so if you haven't joined yet, DO IT!, its $20 odd dollars a year well invested to get a strong and very professional body behind us to help secure a fishing future for ourselves and the generations to follow. If we continue to be apathetic towards being stomped on, well we will not have much fishing opportunities left. Look at them trying to ban fishing at Harvey dam. (I stand to be corrected, I think it is Harvey, if not, it is one of them!) Along with restricted access to beaches, bag and size limits effecting recreational fishers while the pro's continue to do much as they please. I am not against pro- fishermen, but why do we amateurs have to continue to absorb all the restrictions. If these limits are necessary, fine, but let the restrictions apply to all. I'll get off my soap-box now, but think about it guys and gals, the future is in our hands. Stand up and be counted.
