does anyone use the 5 turn surgeons knot?

Fellas,
Just watched the berkley royter video (fark he is annoying! - freak caster though) and saw the 5 turn surgeons knot for tying leaders. Does anyone use this and can it be used to tie braid onto backing as well as the leader? It looks a piece of piss to tie and would run through the guides nicely...

Royter is like that in real life as well. Just plain enthusiastic about his fishing. When Compleat has a sale he usually helps out and bumped into him a few times and he's that way every time I see him (or hear him talk to others about soft plastic fishing). As for him being a freak caster, you have no idea how good he is. Got one of the homemade videos of him breaming in the yarra and he only spent a few minutes on casting under wharves and I'm still trying to master some of the "simple" techniques that he uses.

Sorry to hijack the original question, I use only Albright these days and never really contemplated a different knot, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

Yep I have used it, not a bad little knot. However still find double uni is my go to in the wind knot.

Havent tried it with attaching to the backing.

Surgeons is a great knot. Just a little trickier to tie than the double uni or albirght. Royter tought me how to tie it.

I wouldn't be using the surgeons knot for backing to fireline because there would be far too much backing to pull through the knot. Stick with the double uni for that one.

Ryan.
