Interesting - I've always been an Albright "believer".
Everyone always raves about the SB, but i've never taken the time to learn how to tie it. So after giving it a good crack, I definitely think the albright is easier. I only every do 5 wraps up and 4 back, never failed, no problem going through micro guides. each to their own.

The only issue I've had with the Albright is my braid somehow knotting itself around the tag end when casting, which resulted in having to re-tie.

I only get this problem when the leader winds onto the reel.

I don't believe in albright knot,to many faults.
Also i don't think FG suitable for UL,first of all it very hard to tier outdoor ,down to PE#2 I don't even think about it. Many years I use this knot: no name knot It easy to tier, even on nasty weather, strong and runs on rings almost like FG

Thanks Denis and welcome to the site.
The knot you linked is very similar to a Slim Beauty. Try the SB and you won't be desappointed. I agree the FG is too cumbersome when tying light lines. What fish do you target in Israel? Cheers, |

almost all species in my album
Most common, white bream,European seabass, barracuda, bluefish, blue runner, groupers, dolphinfish, atlantic tuna, spanish mackerel. some times, dentax (sniper),leerfish, miagre (you call it jew),amberjack. Most popular (inshore) targeting for white bream and seabass. regards, Denis.

I tie a variation to the SB by locking the tag off twice by leaving a loop of braid in the figure 8 and coming back through it find it holds well tying light lines

Just wrap down instead, result is a much neater profile knot without any bunching up (which can lead to knot failure) and just as strong.

I like the slim beauty, but find it difficult to tie with 6lb leader and all but impossible with 4 lb. The (double) overhand knot just doesn't have big enough loops for my failing eyesight and fumbling fingers to thread the braid through.
For really light leader the improved albright is the only one I (can) use. Even for heavier leaders, I'll tie a SB at home, but if I have to re-tie out in "the field" it's an improved albright. Might try the one you linked Dennis, looks like more room to thread the braid @ the beginning. Last edited by spork; 22-08-2013 at 06:28 AM. |

Wouldn't an Albright still be thinner, due to it being 2 pieces of leader side by side rather than a knot in the leader.
Having the tag face the right way is defiantly a good thing though
