Slim Beauty Knot
Hi guys I use the slim beauty knot to connect my leader to the braid and was just wondering what you guys rate this knot and whether there are better alternative knots.
Thanks |

Try the fg knot, you won't go back. This is the easiest way I've seen to tie it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52uWL43hUbw

Like joeking said, an FG or sebile knot is the only other knot I'd rate over a slim beauty. This is my variation, which I find very easy to tie, particularly in lighter line where it would be extremely difficult to do so any other way.

Slim beauty has always been my go to knot.
Its easy to tie no matter what conditions you're stuck out in. Not as good as the FG for going through the guides but its the second best IMO.

If tying up leader the night before a fish ill do fg knots, but if I'm in a hurry or tying up after a bust off or something like that I always use a slim beauty, great knot mate.

Its the only one i use now, tried a fair few over the years.
It won the worlds strongest joining knot competeion that Berkley put together as well,,tho the FG and others were not included in testing i believe. Heres the Modified albright up against the doulble uni http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R_2xautA1U Last edited by Shortytheyakker; 07-08-2013 at 04:05 AM. |

Footnote to my comment above - double uni knot for bream, light line doesn't make a big enough knot to be an issue casting. I go to the fg or slim beauty in line and leaders over 10lb

I think that there is a noticeable difference. The slim beauty is easy especially on the yak and a quality knot for micro guides. Each to their own I suppose.

I use this over the Slim beauty now. Also known as the Alberto, gotta be the easiest knot and very strong. Do need to clip the leader piece down tight though. Doesn't weaken after casting.

No contest. Even though Slim Beauty has a chance to fail on light lines (due to excess friction tightening the knot), it's simply the perfect knot. Small, easy to tie, even in the night on a boat rocking in the wind. It's simply the slimmest knot (barring the 100+ percenters like FG, GT etc.) and the tag end of the leader faces away from the guides when casting.
Albright is just as good until you factor in repeated casting. It's a much thicker knot and the tag end of the leader faces the guides on casting. As a result, knot catches on the guide which reduces casting distance (minor but still), and weakens considerably over time. If I ever use that knot on HBs, I'd re-tie it often to make sure I don't lose them in a cast when the leader gives way. |
