Easy one...

Pflueger Patriarch 6'10 1-3kg.

A super light rod with one of the best tip sections I have ever come across for working small stickbaits and divers.

I grabbed a new Gladiator Psyborg rod today from a lil over your budget in a 2 piece 1-3kg rod. You get em 1 piece as well. Maybe because i havent used expensive rods before, but these new Fuji KR guides cast amazingly easy. The rod has an amazing sensitivity to it as well. Great product.

The Tairyo Nonospeed Plus seemed like amazing rods as well. With the lines breaking at nearly x2 its rated breaking strength, its hard to go past Fireline in 4lb etc.

Paulus for braid questions. Flat vs. round. I don't think any braid is truly round? Is it? Ask Paulus...

http://www.paulusjustfishing.com/

After that you can buy some truly independently tested Tasline Braid from him that will be way thinner than any over the counter stuff.

No affiliation on my part. Just a great guy doing a great service for us Anglers.

PE stands for polyethylene (in the case of braid Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene or UHMWPE) which is the material all braid is made from. Dyneema and Spectra are company names and are the only two companies that actually make and outsource braid. All braid that is not developed by an independent company such as toray, sunline, gosen etc. is made by either Spectra or Dyneema.

I would personally go a Tairyo Nano rod. Far better and more durable than a Lox (which I personally think are snot).

Wrong!!

The Chinese are also making uhmwpe and lots of it the quality varies greatly and you would never know what you are getting.

Spectra is made by Honeywell in the USA and dyneema is made by an opposing company.

These places DO NOT make braid they produce the fibre ( spectra, dyneema) in varying grades. The fibers then need to be spun like wool to make each individual strand and it is here that the denier (weight per meter) is produced ie more fibre in gives a thicker stronger strand.

Then these single strands are weaved into the braid once this is done it goes through a number of processes to give it it's strength and diameter, and it is at this stage that 0.2deg centigrade can change the whole structure and weaken the braid to a point where it is useless.

The 6lb tasline SAS braid as produced by Paulus Van Gaal and myself is currently the thinnest braid in the world for any given breaking strain yet it breaks at 8.27lb

It's is available online from www.fishin.com.au or www.jayrotackle.com.au

Cheers
Dan

Still looking for a rod?
Try Marks Custom Fishing, currently building custom rods from $200 (plus freight).
I just spooled up some tasline SAS braid. I'll have to redo it, because I didn't use enough backing, that stuff is THIN!
