I went to Bundaberg last weekend for a family time and a pre fish

With the kind indulgence of Brad Young I travelled the main fishing zone and took about 70 photographs.

They have been put in a file with notes but it is too large to post here ( 21mb)

Bundaberg Bream

This is a collection of photographs and notes - intended for beginners like me - who will be attending the BREAM competition on 2/ 3 August 2003.

All were taken at low tide - and in sequence from the start point to the bridges. In sequence this goes map 6,5,7,8 on the Beacon to Beacon.

Fish food/ environment I noticed:
- Huge amounts of small bait fish – varying species.
- Plenty of fish on the finder 2 to 6 m and near shore/ drop offs
- Clear water
- Warmer than Brisbane
- Small black crabs with red claws – on the rocks
- Sandy bottoms , little debris ( but plenty of rocks to snag up on)

Briefing: the briefing is at Salty’s Tackle shop. It’s in Quay street, near the centre of town. The shop is set back from the street with front parking.
The setback makes Salty's hard to spot - but its straight opposite the Quality Motel
Thanks to Brad Young and Polycraft I had a quick tour of the river below the bridges. There are reported spots above the bridges - we ran out of time

The Burnett Heads Boat Harbour is the obvious launch point. Lots of parking and a 4 car wide launch ramp.

We chose low tide – to try to illustrate the structure
The start line is at the Marina - about 1200m upstream from the Boat harbour. ( out of bounds for fishing)
Just beyond the Marina is the first of several trawler wharves.

The Sugar Wharves - also Out of Bounds
The North wall goes on for about 4 or 5 klm - locals say that when the boat club has a Bream Comp this wall is solid boats. Tidal flow is strong and so are winds - so holding position is a challenge

Cable Ferry with the lines down. Every year or so someone runs into the cable at full speed with painful consequences. Note the position of the black markers .

Three bridges the newest has pointed columns which bream favour.
Ordinary photo, ordinary Bream - but typical of the rock walls - this one the southern wall.
