Sure does - both my Alvey's float on a nickel based oil and they are smoother than anything I have spun.

Love the look of that Alvey, you would think its a "last a lifetime" reel.
Here's one I've noticed around the interweb. Not fancy or a long term investment, but looks promising for a cheaper reel:

So Doc you like Abu's also?

Slaz,

Can you post up some pics of your abus?

I get tingly with abu round reels, so strong and smooth, yet so simple and carefree

They one look sweet!

A couple days ago i decided i would start collecting the abu barrels, but fark me, theres so many.

I got the itch after servicing close to thirty in a two month block a while back.

Some looked like pooh after some harsh treatment, but some, owned by some older more careful gents, looked amazing, inside and out and they were twenty years old.

So far, i have one c4 lol

Long way to go

At no point does there seem to be a end with the availability of different parts put onto limited run Abu's - seems that limited runs of 50 were common for some countries, and even runs of '2' were run...

So theoretically you could never accomplish a full set of every Abu's. Would be a nice try but a very expensive one as the Yank collectors have more money than any of us combined to buy one ultra rare limited run.

I am not collecting - yet cherish my 2 x 6500C3's, 5600C4, 1500CIAR & 2500CIAR (all old editions pre Berkley brand image molesting)

I have a PPT file you may like reading yet cant attach it on here - a little PDF is at the bottom for the smaller models.

Wow!

You know, it wouldn't surprise me that there'd be old fellas out there with a few beauties sitting in the shed gathering dust.

That top box kit!!! Just wow. The price must be massive. Something to put on the mantle for admiration

That there is proper 24K gold plated my friend... Crem de la crem of Abu's.

http://www.collectorsweekly.com/fishing/abu-ambassadeur

P.s. drill a 1mm hole in the bottom of the side plates of those Abu Ambassadeurs that get flogged or used properly. These tiny holes in the side plates let the water out and stop anodic reactions happening in these side plates - you may be aware of it? I have done this to my C3's / C4 after I caught on that water pooled inside without any way of escaping.
