Samurai or vapor?
Hi all, I'm weighing up the prospect of possibly getting a new rod. Mainly be for Throwing hb's and vibes around on the flats, but could be used around rockwalls, jetty pylons etc. so it needs to have a bit of grunt. I will most likely be matching it with a rarenium 2500fa.
I'm stuck between: - nitro vapor. I don't know which one, 66 or 70. Are they stiff at the tip? -samurai 201 or 203, how much grunt do these have? Any help is appreciated. Cheers. |

I have a Samurai 203 great rod, plenty of guts. By the sound of it the 201 may be better suited to what you are looking to do with it. Should be a good combo with the rarenium I have a 2500 Stradic on mine.
The Nitro rods are great but are all 2-piece so I didn't look at them when I bought my Samurai.

Yeh, much prefer the Eva grips on the samurai. It was just a question of how much guts they have. Will be buying a two piece regardless, easier for me to transport.

You can rule out the 66 vapor as it is very fast action which suits plastics. I use my 70 for rolling hards and vibes. It has a nice parabolic bend but has plenty of butt section to pull fish out of snags. As for the 201, it is a more universal rod but not as "finesse" as a vapor 70. You may want to check out the Samurai 101 as I personally think it will fit between the vapor 70 and samurai 201. Best of luck and I hope this helps.

i second the above, deffinately check out the samauri 101. It may be a 1-2 kg rod but it has handled everything from decent school jewies to 70cm flatties to 40 cm bream with ease, it really does have alot of power down low and has a nice and soft action to reduce puled hooks.

So a 101, bear in mind this will be two piece. It has grunt does it?
I heard it was a noodle. |

Check out the video the WeFlick guy put up of their Day 1 at Nelson VicBream round. The Samurai in that video is a 101, I would put it in the noodle category.
Great rod but not something I would rely on to pull fish out of structure. http://www.youtube.com/weflickfishing

well obviously it isnt going to be the worlds best structure rod, but i have pulled some nice fish over 40 around the snags without too many dramas so i wouldnt call it a complete noodle

The rods main purpose as indicated above is hards and vibes but needed "a bit of grunt", hence why I suggested the 101. Not a complete noodle of a rod IMO.

Had no problem fishing the vapor 7 footer with 10lb braid in the tropics, it got a lot of power in the butt. I use it as a flats rod and light bay stick and it's perfect for it.

The 101 is the best off the shelf rod I've ever owned, would not be using it for structure, rolls a hards on the flats better then anything Last edited by Ado; 18-09-2012 at 11:52 PM. |

Had plans on another 203 next, might have to make it a 101 from what I am hearing.

Ok, this has made things worse. Haha, so it's now between the vapor 70, and samurai 101,201,203.
Will I lose alot of power with the samurais by getting a two piece? Also how much more grunt does a 203 have over a 101. Is a 201 more suited to sp's? |

You won't be losing power by using a 2 piece over a 1. They feel very much the same.
The 203 has a medium taper which means it's "softer" then the 201. The 201 does "suit" plastics more, but I have used it for rolling hards many many times with no issues. As for how much more grunt the 203 has over the 101.....not much untill you have the rod loaded in the bottom half. If your using it around structure the bream will already have turned it's head with the slower action.

Just been into my local to see the rods, vapor is a great rod, however, I dont like the grips and reel seat. Does anyone know where I can get a look at samurais around Perth?
