I've never used one but they seem like a gimmick to me.

The marketing does make some good points. The line is in contact with the whole blank so there are obvious advantages there. Also without guides you'd have a very light and crisp rod.

I've heard it can be difficult to get a heavy leader through the end of them, but where they probably excel would be with ultra light lines anyway. You'd hope after purchasing one you could say goodbye to guide wraps and leader knots catching. Only way to tell would be to buy one and fish it and if it sux, sell it

Time will tell. having looked at a couple heavy leaders are a big no no, and this also forces you to fish short leaders. Multi-stage light leaders would work.

The design has improved, but IMHO they will still suffer from the problems that killed the older gen. interlines. Losing the threader, dirt inside the blank. The ferrule design is also not the strongest design.

They do offer guided rods in the series..... wonder why? Insurance by my reckoning.

interline...

I've got an old Procaster-Z Interline that I like.
Going off memory it's got a 30lb mono line reccomendation to fit through the tip (or knots of similar O.D.) without fear of the knot jamming in the tip. All the newer Interline rods I've looked at are less than this (20lb I think)

If you are running a long leader I've found there is a risk of the leader knot jamming occasionally in the 'guide' where the line enters the rod. Not a big problem but I've found if it happens a couple times I generally retie my leaders as wedging itself between the rod and guide usually knicks the leader.

Casts are a mile long & sensitivity is brilliant.

"They do offer guided rods in the series..... wonder why?"

Releasing the rod as an 'interline' only means it will have a very limited target group. Adding some guides increases sales potential by increasing the size of the sales net.
I'm relatively certain they use different blanks for construction so by rights, using different blanks and different technology means you're effectively getting two different rods whose performance will vary noticibly I'm betting.

Yep, insurance...... "just in case". If you are marketing the rods in the same series but with different blanks, then that's just a different rod. You certainly aren't getting any interline technology, just a newer blank.

Definitely no interline technology and one could argue that it's very likely that the blank used is not rod specific. Quite likely paying for new cosmetics on another blank from the line-up, which in turn make the rod 'new'.
