Thumbs up Hello!

Hello Everyone,

My Name is Martin. I’ve recently moved out from the UK (Isle of Wight) and am now living in Adelaide.

I’m a keen lure/plug user and love using the lighter gear and added ability to move around chasing the fish, but am into all sorts of fishing. I was a regular bass hunter (Dicentrarchus labrax) back on the Island so looking forward to doing some similar fishing here.

My two main rods were a Penn Powerstix Pro Bass (10’ 25-85gram) and an Abu Garcia Diamond Crest (9’6” 20-60gram) paired with a Shakepeare MKII 040 graphite reel (still going!) but it seems apparent that these may be a little strong for bream so I will save those for the beach (salmon?) and will be looking at a new bream setup soon, although I may need convincing that a 6-7’ rod is a good choice! To me that sounds very short, but it seems you guys don’t have the rocks and weed to contend with(?) I've been reading some threads about West Lakes so that seems a good place to start once I've got a setup...

Anyway, looking forward to learning,

Cheers,

Labek

Welcome to Adelaide and Breammaster, Labek....

West Lakes is good starting point but beware of the patrol on boat that threaten to give you a fine...Run when you see them..

Pontoon in WL is good place to cast but prepare to lose a lot of lures...

Hope to see you around..

Cheers
Matthew

Welcome to BM and Australia Labek.

Those rods you have explained would indeed be better suited for targeting salmon and the like off the beaches and stones. A light 4-8lb, 7ft graphite rod would be more then ideal to target bream and other estuarine species from either shore based or from out of a boat.

Good luck, hopefully you start smacking a few Australian fish soon!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys

Cheers for the warning regarding the patrols; I'll have to read more about where to go/not to go. One of my girlfriend's family live on the Lakes so I was hoping to maybe use their tiny pontoon or use his kayak and try my luck, but I'll look more into it.

Best head to a local fishing store too..

Thanks again,

Labek

Update:

Well, I've gone and bought myself a Pflueger Trion 2-4kg 7' rod, a 2500 Sienna, some braid and some softies.

Anyone fancy an apprentice? :-)

Great starter outfit to find your feet with. I'd fish with you but I'm in Melbourne.

Have fun and welcome to Australia
