Keeping species out of it generally as a club is a good idea. Opening peoples eyes to the sort of fishing you can have from our style of boats is a good aim. Then weekend events can evolve around species and locations. Where possible I think staying with the C&R philosophy is a good idea.

1) What are your thoughts on a small annual membership payment as per all other sports? Say $30 or so per annum. Keep in mind it is a non-profit organization and all money goes back into the club (paying insurance, expansion of club assets, etc)
Have you look at potential club premises?
Have you looked at your minimum club numbers at $30 to see whether premises were financially viable at say a minimum 30 member club?

What a great idea.
I know when I looked at this sport some 4 yrs ago I couldn't believe
there wasn't a club to join or somewhere to meet on a regular basis.
With the suspention of WABT it left a big hole in the introduction of
new people to the sport.
A social club run by volunteers could fill that hole.
I enjoyed the summer series the most, BBQ lunch,6 hrs fishing then
a BBQ at the weigh in ,at Mounts Bay Sailing Club.
I believe it should be based on the Swan ,Canning rivers and when the
numbers are strong the other away comps will have the numbers boosted.
I struggle to get away but support any local comp or breamers day, theres
probably a lot more like me around.
If something comes of this I will be one of those volunteers.

Cheers Gary

Thats exactly the idea behind it Bear. We would really like to be able to open people up to the amazing fishing in WA that many just aren't aware of or wouldn't normally be inclined to trying out.

Also the venue, one idea put forward was perhaps talking to one or some of the uni's about use of rooms there. School halls or scout halls, rotary halls and the likes are all other options we'll look into.

It would be nice if the venue could be a place that the club could use for club days as well rather than meeting at other locations. It would be worth speaking to BLA, after all we're promoting boating, and see if we can use the ski club as they have access to the club and we have used it for tournament days etc. Could be ideal.

Other than that other spots along the Swan like the Maylands Yacht Club, Claremont YC and so on. Approaching them with a way to boost club usage could turn out to be useful to them.

At least that way club days can be on club premises.

i Carn't beleive this post didn't go off the radar.
Is every one out there that frightened to get involved they ignor
what is the future of bream fishing c & r.
Who is introducing new people to the sport?
Who is looking after junior breamers?
For all the effort I see being put in by a few I'ts not going anywhere.
The sport needs to be amalgamated by an amateur group of volunteers
but still supporting of sponsors.
I'm for a meeting of anyone interested to form such a club.

Cheers Gary

Now you get some idea of the frustration WABT has had. For this sport to have any hope we need as many people we can get involved. Don't be shy ladies and gents, this is the best group of people I've ever been involved with bar none and I've run a lot of sporting groups.

This is a chance for anglers to have a say in a club for future years. Give it a go.

In regards to new people being introduced to the sport taking the first step is the hardest. Also getting involed in things like the classics are hard because if you dont have a boat you cant fish it. Not that there is anything wrong with it but the majority of the comp breamers are in it to win it not retrieve the NB or new guys snaggs all day (sorry to any of my previous boaters out there) Getting to be in the know is the hardest part. Then for me i cant fish any 2 day comps or events because I work on Saturdays which basically leaves me stuffed. Im keen as to fish the social days where possible I just think it isnt as easy as saying come down and have a fish. There almost needs to be an introduction night or first timers day where someone can take new people under their wing to get the ball rolling. With all the passionate people on this forum there no reason why the club cant be a huge success.

Blackswan (Gary)

Mate we are working our hardest at getting it going, but unfortunately we also have lives to live as well. We have made more inroads into insurance side of things and continue to get hit up by companies associated with fishing all the time. Sad fact is that this time of the year everyone is busy with stocktakes, tax and not to mention our own personal commitments. We are striving to build up one big club to cover all aspects of the sport including the newbies etc. When people start ideas to build up thier own little groups its good to see, but kind of underminds all the work we are doing. We are an amatuer group of individuals, yes we hope to get some sponsors backing and yes we already had a meeting, where it was advertised on our current base site for a good few weeks. Three people showed up. I know the traffic on the site had now picked up, but we have already got our ideas down and are working towards getting it started. I know your keen and so am i, but good things will come to those who wait. We arent going to be rushing anything and getting it wrong.

Brad,
Obviously some things have been going on in the background.

May I suggest that you guys post up who is currently on the 'committee' so that people have some idea where the club is at the moment?

Sorry Brad looks like you took my comments as a criticism, wasn't intended.
Brad don't try and go it alone.
Lets get a list going on this site who would be interested in joining such a club.
Have a meeting and delegate some jobs out.
If you wait to get it perfect it may not happen.
Let the whole breaming community decide what they want in a club.
There's a wide crossection of occupations and talent in the fishing community
waiting to get involved.

Cheers Gary

No worries Black Swan, believe me we appreciate the enthusiam and support mate.

I think people are getting a little ahead and may think the club is further advanced than it currently is.

A formal and set committee is yet to be finalized, but we do have people working behind the scenes to make it happen (who will almost certainly be the founding committee members).

We are in the middle of getting all the necessary details and jobs done in order to run the club. At the moment we are jsut trying to gauge sentiment/ideas/opinion etc. It isn't going to happen overnight guys but to use a cliche...it will happen.

Dave
