Here is a video I found to be very useful to make the FG knot, very simple using this method, got it right first time trying it...

How many wraps would everyone do if they were fishing with 4 pound braid and 4 pound fluorocarbon?

I do 30-40, the thinner the braid the more likely it is to slip.

30 for the thinner leaders and less the thicker they get, but no less than 20.
Never had one slip yet.

I have a suspicion that different braids have different amounts of grip - especially with light line. I've found Fireline Crystal is more likely to slip than Sunline Super PE when tying FGs.

Also - if your line is still wet, the chance of slipping increases. Make sure all your wraps are nice and tight in the initial stage of the knot.

I try to make sure I dont have too much sweat or scent on my finger tips while tying. This is one knot you dont what to lube up as it relies heavily on braid gripping a smooth un-kinked leader

I was using this video ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjzUb5QRKuk
and found that when I do the wraps they don't wrap around the leader properly and end up forming on top of eachother. When I do the hithces at the end they dont tighten properly. Every 1/10 goes it would work and the coils formed properly. Does anyone know why this is happening and is this the best video for me to use?
Cheers

Easy fix mate - the bloke isnt using the patented "Big Fish Larry, Deep V, FG Technique"

Putting a V in your braid helps the wraps to climb up the leader - doing it flat, like that bloke in your link, didnt work for me either. All my wraps just climbed on top of each other.

The "Deep V" will sort out that problem.

Thanks mate will try that out. I dont think I have been pulling the line tight after each wrap.

Yeah if you keep the braid in a flat line, its going to be a frustrating learning curve. They just naturally want to sit on top of each other.

The "V" is the key to your problem
