Line for my Certate

Hi all, recently picked up a 4000 size Certate which doesn't have any line yet. All of my breaming reels have always had Nitlon on them, where my D-Redback 4000 has 15lb Penn line (which I'm actually quite happy with in the couple of trips I've put it through in Exmouth). With the Certate, I'm thinking of 30lb line, but I'm not sure how much the spool will hold (although I assume 300m should fit with enough room for some backing). I'm not keen to spend a fortune, but I want something that will do well, so looking on an online tackle store, my options are looking like this, Sunline Castaway (200m $86.25) or Sunline Super PE (300m $61.05) or Line System Bass Hard (300m $89). Due to the price and the length of line, the Super PE is looking the best to me at the moment as I don't have heaps of cash to throw around. If there are other brands I've overlooked (or weren't on the online store), I'm all ears as I don't really know much about the different braids.

Cheers! Ben

what type of style of fishing are you doing, bouncing plastics along the bottom, or more casting poppers for gt's around the headlands?

In terms of amount of line, I managed to get the full 300m of 30lb saltiga surf braid onto mine, and I probably should have used more backing.

Personally I reckon if you've forked out the cash for a certate, its probably worth spending a few extra bucks on the line, even if you have to put it off buying for a couple of weeks. I haven't tried any of the other lines mentioned in 30lb, but I reckon theres not much point buying an an inferior product, that isn't as enjoyable to use, doesn't work as well, and / or one that your going to have to replace - more a false economy really, (besides, I've seen you with your windknots).

I've done it before - baught a cheaper line cause I was strapped for cash at the time and thought that it would be fine - ended up replacing it within a couple of weeks.

Cheers Nath

Actually I don't really have much use for it just yet in Perth until I can go chase some snapper in the Sound, but it will mostly be for fishing up in Exmouth, or sometimes on a trip south, so it will be used for anything and everything (It is my most powerful reel and my only reel bigger than the bream reels with the exception of the D-Redback and that's starting to feel a little grindy after 2 trips north of abusive fishing).

I might just transfer the 15lb line over from the D-Redback for the time being I guess until I can afford something better...

hey mate save your cash and buy yourself a spool of varivas casting pe in 35lb. seriously good stuff, save yourself some time and trouble by getting something decent rather than going through spools of average line, give an awsome reel the line it deserves haha

Not sure if you have distributors in AU or not for it but in the US we order from plat.co.jp / japantackle.com / japanprofishing.com to get those lines. I think right now plat has 20% off all of their P.E lines till the 28th for a black friday sale .

Cheers mate, some good sites there, I think I might get one of the machined handles and a knob, they look cool - what are the benefits of doing that over the standard (folding) handle on the Certate? Is it just a weight thing?

The reason I was going for a mid-priced braid over a high end is that i tend to get a lot of loop knots resulting in me losing several metres of line each time.

da_houghsta ,

If thats the case someone else might be able to chime in as I am not sure of what you guys have readily avail to you in stores line wise. Toray , YGK , Sunline , Varivas . .. All decent and chances are come out of the same factory anyway.

The handle , It makes it "pretty" and does weigh a little less ... Mentally I think it makes you feel like its more solid. tacklwarehouse.com has them for 47.00 after the 20% off , I am not sure how much shipping would be to aus but that is currently the best price I have found between german , uk , japan , au , us sites .

BUT with that said , no not much of a difference , However what does make a big difference I feel is adding a bearing supported knob . It just adds to the smoothness of the reel so much.

Anyway , things you will want.

1. Bearing supported knob
2. Carbontex Drag washers

There are other decent options to improve things but its really up to you at that point .

Like one of my purchases was this
http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/p...g-kit-s-m.html

It helped the inertia start up and was only 18 bucks but , I dont know if it was some major improvement.

There is also this

http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/p...adapter-m.html

I guess since its 3kg for fishing bream it would be good and another bearing is always nice , but once again not sure if its a gigantic improvement.

Yep, maybe some of these lines do come out of the same factory, but if one is Clearly better than the other then what is your point.
{it's called cornering the market}

Have you held these lines together and looked at them closely?
I recently looked at the new Varivas, orange-white and black colour, PE 0.6 in 9.1lb, literally felt like silk.

Cheers.

Growse ,

I think the product coming from any of the companies I listed ( I feel ) is a quality product . There are different grades of product sure. But I think its a safe bet to say he will be getting some nice line if he goes with one of those companies.

Rather than putting on powerpro or some other line which caters to the uninformed who like to fish with their spinning reel upside down because they do not know any better. And you end up wasting your money and wondering why you are getting wind knots with your fishing line that has the memory of thin copper wire .

Are you talking about the new eging lines? Varivas just came out with a white/black/orange Eging Max line .. I havent ordered any yet as I just spooled up my reels with avani sea bass max and ygk geso X .

I want to try the branzino and the eging line you mentioned next , but all i can find right now on the japanese sites that ship to the states only seem to have the standard new eging line by varivas and not the max power you discussed nor the Milky Pink Eging line by varivas.

Yeah, the egging lines...
If I get back into lure fishing I'll be putting some of the Orange-white-black stuff on.
Absolute top end quality stuff, any of the Varivas range.
Cheers.
