1st and only of it’s kind. (Lure edition)

Is there one type of fish, you have only ever caught one of - on lure

For me it’s flounder.

Actually I’ve just thought of a few interstate reef trips that would bump up those numbers but I leave it at my home state.

Yeah I’ve caught a few minnows on bibbed minnows but weirdly enough they all occurred within a couple of weeks of each other. You know you’re in the right spot when you start hooking them with a treble

Cant find the photos but my memory tells me a KGW on a 75 Double clutch and a flounder on a Kangoku shad. Regards, HBt.

No one off's as such because that would mean never to happen again.
But can certainly relate to the oddities.
Juvenile 15cm King George whiting on 5" paddle tails n 6/0 hooks
Flounder on 3" bass minnows. In one area here, that's more common than you might think!
Stripped Trumpeter (shitties for the SA crowd) on both hards n softs
Hooked a squid on an old vibrotail (anyone remember them?)
Small pilchards & mullet usually on hards.
I guess if ya fish enough in the enough of the right places, then ya bound to come across the unusual.

Yeah for some of those fellas- the size of their mouths is the only thing holding them back from be more regular lure captures. Little fish attacking big lures they can’t possibly swallow has always intrigued me.

It reminds me of a saying my year 8 History teacher was fond of - “The weak shall be bashed”😉

The local Fugu liked the micro jigs, and a weird one was flute fish going nuts for the R2S lipless shads... They fought for every gram of their worth.

Haha love the little fugu

I said I wasn’t going to include interstate stuff but your post reminded me of the Nor West Blow fish. They call them “Toe cutters” on the islands where this one was caught. They’re known for their aggressive nature and bighting people.
