What cameras are people using???
hey guys
some little grubs decided to steal my fishing bag from my back veranda the other night which had my little point and shoot in the bag. luckily they dumped all the rest of the gear from the bag which had a tray of hard bods and squid jigs which would have cost more than the camera, not to mention the 4 bream combos sitting next to the bag lol. anyways im in the market for a new point and shoot style camera. What are people using these days? want it mainly just for taking photos (video doesnt worry me too much but i guess is handy) and in terms of price i would be willing to check anything out but i guess around the 200-500 mark could get me something ok these days. something waterproof would be sweet too obviously due to the environment we are in. |

Sony Cybershot Tx 200v is what I have been using for some time now and absolutely love it. Very versatile

I'm a Panasonic Lumix fan .
DMC FT3 does it all for me , you could probably pick up an FT1 second hand real cheap now days , nice robust camera , very easy to use ,really good in all light conditions and close ups, water proof to 3m and the biggy for me is battery life , one recharge lasts for weeks if your just taking photo's, it a bit of a holden /ford debate other wise. FT3 will cost you around -$300 from memory , great value for what they can do. |

Olympus TG810 is my weapon of choice. Great value in my mind and easy to use, although i am sure i am not utilising it fully. So happy with its useability and seemingly indestructability that i bought the 610 for jnr CK.

I have just bought a Lumix Coolpix AW110. Haven't used it yet but going by the specs it should be pretty durable. You can wirelessly upload your pics to your smartphone which is pretty cool I think. Also has a good solid waterproof seal on the battery slot.

Do you have any example photo's of what the ft4 is like mate? I've got the ft2 that's on it's last legs, I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade.

Another vote for Panasonic Lumix, great range of compact cameras
from small waterproof models to compact super zooms! Excellent value for money! |

+1 for the Fuji XP170.
Absolutely love my 'tough' little camera which takes awesome pic's! Bought it for $199 and came with silicone skin, floating wrist strap, SD card and some other bits. Mind you bought a 16Gig Class 10 HCSD card as its faster read / write. Battery life has gotten 'so much' better after a few cycles - however bought 2 more batteries on eBay for JIC... Not a fan of taking it diving / snorkelling as I have a dedicated housing for my SP560 UZ which is better rated for that. HOwever for outdoors'ing and kayaking its perfect! Yeah Plus one for the Nikon Coolpix aw110,
Upgraded to this after having an olympus, then an ft4 which is sitting on the bottom of the coral sea with some epic photos, but have had the new nikkon for about 9 months now and think it is the ducks, nuts. Easy as to use, automode is awesome and the menu is easy to understand. I personally find it a bit better than my Panosonic but only through ease of use, photo quality is a little bit better under water to, but yet again not by much. The wifi function is pretty handy with an app available for your phone for quick photo transfer. Love it and is a bit cheaper than the Panasonic. |
