Guess which blade shape Most Vic anglers prefer to fillet a 3kg snapper
Did a little poll on a Vic snapper page.
See if you can guess the most popular blade shape for filleting a 3kg snapper. Cutting around the rib cage - not through it Extra points for getting all 6 in the correct order. Feel free to add your own choice (p.s. yes I know they arent fish filleting knives) Last edited by yellow door 1; 09-10-2018 at 11:17 AM. |

Yeah i wouldnt mind having a play with number 4 -I like the idea of being able to cut both ways - with a push or pull cut like in this video - fast forward to 2.07 for push cuts

Yeah I filleted a 5kg carp with this little paring knife the other day- It actually felt great using a short stiff blade. So much control around the rib cage compared to a long floppy knife.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- edit - I just realised I've never known why a paring knife is called a paring knife so I googled it Noun. paring knife (plural paring knives) A thin-bladed knife intended for coring and paring (peeling) fruit such as apples as well as slicing small ingredient it is majorly used for detailed & controlled cutting. Here a little piece which includes info on how critical the water coming out of the Yarra is, to the survival of juvenile snapper. I hope the chemical run off from that stoney creek fire doesnt have an impact on the food chain

It could be misconstrued as an unfair home ground advantage

For most pan and oven size fish I use a knife like 5 or 6.
Not a snapper and not 3 kilo, but watch this guys interesting technique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8jFC6qkFqk
