ha ha this made my night. But seriously now, Murray Cod can not aestivate,
or slow down or change ther metabolism they would die of ammonia poisoning if the lack of oxygen did not get them first.

Dont think our cod can burrow or build mud cocoons, such an iconic fish like the murray cod, would have been studied extensively especially for behaviour like whats being claimed here. I remember reading a long time ago abt the lung fish, ithink thats what its called, they are able to build cocoons and wait for rain.

It doesn't sound right to me, the other year when they drained Lake Mokoan near Benalla for the last time there were literally dozens of dead cod in excess of a metre and that was while there was still a foot or so still in the lake. The lack of oxygen got them and it was heartbreaking to see so many big fish just rotting away.

The fisheries said they tried to move as many as possible to other nearby waterways but couldn't get them all.

don't know about this claim if low oxygen levels in water can cause large scale fish kills then yo would think a cod out of water wouldn't stand much chance the only fish I've heard of that can survive in dryed up river beds are lung fish they can burrow down quite deep and secreete a mucus that hardens and encases them like a cacoon and the fish can stay moist.
These ones they're from Africa
