Generally don't like Snaps on Fish with Oyster Crunching abilities. Have had mangled clips snapper fishing so they are now reserved for squidding with kids so they can swap and change and not bother me.

Yeah when you mention "oyster crunching" - clips begin to sound like a bad idea.

It reminded me of an IFish episode where Paul was fishing in SA for snapper - the snapper would often bight the sinkers and leave deep teeth marks in the lead - plenty of clip opening power there

Do you remember what clips you were using at the time and how many times it happened?

Has happened twice and I don't fish that much! It was either Gamma EZ or Daiwa Egi in Medium. They weren't opened they were mangled. Would have been caught in snap snaps teeth.

I used to like the speed clip until I lost a lure using one, only a problem if the lure eyelet is very fine wire but once was enough for me.

Yeah I hear that - twice is definitely enough to start rethinking your approach

Yeah I've written off entire brands of tackle after the first failure of one of their products

I spose it all depends on how many times it works before it fails - but if it fails on the first outing, it takes a better man than me to forgive and forget

Yeah dont get me wrong - I've only had one snap fail - it was a tsunami rated to 70lb - but after looking at the snap it was easy to see its design was flawed - if I'd squeezed the metal plate shut over the wire with pliers it may have stayed shut.

But I have used other snaps on alot of different species and thats the only one that opened so I'll continue to use them - I just test them first these days, to make sure the design is sound.

The little pinkies I catch havent worked out how to open up snaps yet

Fool me once - Shame on you
Fool me twice - Shame on me
