Honda owners??

Had a run in a boat today with a 50hp honda four stroke on the back and heard some funny noises. When the motor was tilted up to avoid hitting the shallow bottom an alarm would go off. I had a look at the manual and the only buzzer seemed to be that for either low oil levels or overheating. I checked the oil levels and they were fine. The tell tale was also spurting water as well. When i turned the motor off and gave it a few minutes it started fine and ran fine on the run back to the ramp which was about fifteen minutes. However when we got back to the ramp and i had the motor tilted up the same alarm went. Just wondering if it could be that due to the shallow water there was some prop ventilation and the engine was overheating??? Would this be a major deal in terms of long term engine "health"? Just wondering if any other honda owners have experienced the same problem?

The motor has just had a full service and a new water pump installed after it had sat for nearly 18 months

cheers scott

mate bring it back to your dealer and tell em wats goin on and they should check it out and fix it

it proply isnt something that will wreck your motor, normally wen something like this happens to a motor its something very small and can be fixed without any hassel

not actually a problem ...

Scott,

you have the early model honda that a alarm sounded when past trim range and entered tilt range, this was a safety mechanism to prevent people from tilting engine to high and running the oil pick up out of oil, this was never the case so the feature was removed in later models, this feature can be removed but will cause no harm to your motor being there, also for your info the alarm will only sound over a certain RPM, at idle it will be ok.

***********

I can't claim credit. A nice guy at Honda I know helped me wiith this one.

Thanks very much guys for your help. phoned the guy that serviced it and he said that he thought that it would just be prop ventilation?? but he said that he would look at it again if i wanted him to.

Gary, it is a 2001 model honda does that sound about right?

its a Feature not a fault

Yes - we think they had that warning feature until 2003, but definitely it would be on a 2001 model.

So - there is no fault. Just a feature that is not really required.

If it really bugs you it can be disabled - maybe at the next service?

I'm with garry, oil starvation past trim angles may occur and it just tells you that.
