I need help with tackle

G'day
I've just started fishin for bream and I've just
bought a tackle box so i'd like to know what to
get in terms of tackle.

I'd start with the proven lures. Have a look through the Hard odies and Soft Plastics archives, there is a wealth of info in there!
Here are a few starters.
SP's: Gold Glitter Atomic grubs
PumpkinShrimp Sliders
Muscadine Sliders
Electric Gold Crappie Spiders

HB's: Orange/Gold Sneaky Scorpion
Gold Oargee
JG Oargee
Gold Attack

Oargee's - Gold's, purple
Scorpions - Golds, greens
River-to-Sea Sheds - Gold, silver
Combats - Gold

Assortment of Squidgees - bloodworm, jelly prawn, advocado
2" sliders - Muscadine, pumpkinseed

1/32 and 1/16 jigheads on no, 2 & 4 hooks

Pair split ring pliers
Hook sharpening stone
Scissors that will cut through fireline

And thats just for starters. the kit will grow and grow. If still unsure just buy one of everything that Warren sells in the on-line store, or go to the Breammaster shop if you are in Perth and see Geoff

you certainly like gold don't you!
I know gold rules the West, but I reckon its good to have a variety of colours. some dark, some light, some natural, some bright. Then again I've never fished in the west.

Yeah i agree entirely Lizardboy. The only reason i suggest gold is that it seems to be the easiest to catch fish on, as it performs in all conditions here in the west.
Once you've started consistently catching fish, then i'd start exerimenting with colours which are not as common. That way, you can check whether a colour performs or not, or whether it is simply technique!!!

One colour HB i will add is the Pink (with black dots) Oargee! That really is dynamite in dirty water. Bring on winter!!!

I live on the central coast of NSW. The reason i started fishing was because theres an estuary at the end of my backyard where there are heaps of bream and i can go fishing whenever I want!

Well, what i just said about gold can be thrown out the window, as i have no idea on what touse in NSW. Sorry mate!
I am pretty sure the SP's i said, will definately work over there though!

Welcome! What tackle do you already have? (if we know this then it will be easier for us to help you out!)
Rod, Reel, Type of line etc?

Hardbody:
I live in Sydney on the Northern Beaches and my favourite hardbody is the sneaky scorpion in crawfish colour.

Soft Plastics:
If you have a look in the online store under Sliders there are starter kits (" Slider 1.5" Kit") this would be a good choice for you as you get a few different colours and some jigheads at a reasonable price.

If you take some time and read through the posts you will learn a lot about fishing for bream with lures.

I've got a Silstar strike rod which is 6'6" and a silstar strike reel also with some 4lb fireline.

Hey Monkey,
You will need some fishing line to use as a leader. Go for some good quality mono(like the 8lb penn powerline in the online store) or flurocarbon line (I use 6lb berkley vannish) You attach around 2 metres of line to the end of your your fireline, this is best done using a uni knot.

Whatever leader material you end up buying make sure its thin (low diameter) and clearish in colour because you don't want the fish to see it!

Make sure you have some quality containers to store your SP's in (and HB's). Believe me don't buy cheap plastic stuff or the SP's will discolour and the sun and heat will do crazy things to your stuff. I got hold of some plano waterproof containers and their great!! Just a lesson that I quickly learnt!

Oh yeah...if you haven't already watch the Breamin vid's (especially the first one) you'll pick up heaps especially living on the east coast

Go for the natural coloured 2" or so plastics and you won't go wrong

Search these forums for what has worked in the past - I personally believe that if the Bream are in the right frame of mind it doesn't matter what the colour is - as long as you put it 'in their face'

I prefer to keep my plastics in the original bags, there is no chance that they will dry out, and I can add some scent to the bag in one hit.

Hey Monkey, how's it going?

I read in your post that you're from the Central Coast. I'm from the coast too, what estuary does your place back onto? I'm just starting with this bream fishing stuff as well, and have had some success with soft plastics. Over the last couple of weeks, have caught my first few bream on the fly rod, also.

If you'd be interested, I wouldn't mind getting together for a fish some time, with someone else who's into the bream game.
