Corroded pedal plug

I've neglected my Kotas pedal plug since buying the boat. During the Albany classic, it started messing around a bit but came good pretty quick. With another comp coming up soon I wanted to find the issue.

Sure enough, the pins are corroded and one is just about to snap off. Cleaning them will not be enough in this situation.

Has any one ever hard-wired their pedal to the motor? Or are new cables with plugs available?

Yep, both are rooted it seems.

Cheers, I'll give them a call tomorrow.

I never remove my pedal so I just wonder if it's worth trying to wire directly so it doesn't happen again.

Cant see why not. If you strip the wire back enough so theres some corosion free wire, solder it and get some heat shrink thats lined with hot melt glue and put that over the joins. Should do the trick.

Is it possible to remove the cable connected to your electric motor and connect the cable with the foot pedal straight into the electric motor.

To replace the plug, I'll need to replace the whole pedal and motherboard according to BLA...

Time for some soldering and waterproofing I think.

I might try going direct to the motherboard if it looks easy enough.

Cheers guys,

Direct to mother board is easier but make sure you seal it up when you have finished with some epoxy.

Cool, I'll look at that then...

I've been using 'liquid electrical tape' lately, that stuff rocks!

The deed is done and works fine.

The clear connections are mine, sealed the open end with 'liquid electrical tape'.

I have a spare motorguide FW54 if I have issues when away or something.

Nice Job Hazell. When I get mine back from BLA I was thinking of conecting the plugs and then put some silicon on the joint. That would do a pretty good job of sealing I would think?

Cheers
Tim

That's what I would have done if I replaced it. Should work fine or at least help.

I've heard and read about dielectric grease but what exactly is it and what does it do?
