It's slimmer and the tag doesn't catch on guides or cut into your braid.

Another option is to use a triple overhand (kaneit knot) instead of a double overhand, it will form the figure 8 for you to easily pass the braid through

Slim beauty and kaneit start both the same with a double (triple) overhand, than they are a totally different knots all together.
To tie a kaneit you do a uni with the braid as opposed to a slim beauty doing 10 wraps up and 9 down.

Kaneit is not just a triple overhand knot.

I know that that they are different knots. I was talking about the figure 8 you form with the leader, this thread is talking about the figure 8 is it not? Doesn't the slim beauty only use a double overhand and the kaneit uses a triple overhand? The figure 8 forms earlier when you use a triple as opposed to the double.

I did not say that the kaneit is just a triple overhand knot.......

Kaneit uses a double overhand to start. The way you wrote it, it read like you were saying that a triple overhand is called a kaneit knot.

Both knots start exactly the same way as alex suggests.

Oh sorry, I did to.

I thought the kaneit uses a triple overhand to start... that's how I've been doing it. My bad

Well you forget I said any of that, and try using a triple overhand knot to start with, it will form a big enough figure 8 for you to pass the braid through.

I haven't tried the slim beauty because it looked like it would do my head in. Time to stop being lazy and give a crack I reckon

Both great knots IMO.

The fact that the tag faces away from the guides it goes thru means that the knot does not weaken, and some knots can be hit and miss as to whether they come together nicely.

I can tie these in 25 knots and still a decent result.

Mick.

I notice on youtube that some people fold the braid over and tie 4-5 wraps. What do people think of that do you think it would give it more strength?

I've only recently started using the slim beauty knot. Always used the improved Albright before but since using the slim beauty won't be going back. Define pty a lot better casting thru the guides. Haven't had a slim beauty let go yet where as use to happen a lot with the Albright. Alot easier to tie than I thought as well

It was recommended in the mag to double the braid to increase the knot breaking strength significantly.

Actually, Geoff Wilson's book of knots describes it as a knot with the doubled up braid:

I have found doubleing over the braid has increased my knot strenght.

I used this as one of my first knots. It served me well but got a bit to complicated so I started to use the uni...not as strong imo. thanks for showing me this
