Enjoy the occasion and have fun, otherwise you'll get frustrated and stressed way too easy.

Dont take it too seriously, use the opportunity to learn as much as possible and enjoy a good days fishing. If you go into it thinking only about winning, you'll more than likely end up not enjoying it very much.

There is no point in entering a tournament unless you are going to win. Forget about friendships, if you can steal a good spot from a mate, you should, if you can cut the day one leader off on his drift then you can catch all the fish and might win. If no one is watching get a prawn out and soak it you could catch the big bream and win some extra gear.
Get as many sponsors as you can and make sure you tell people that all your fish came on those lures/line/hat/rod/reel/brand of chocolate milk... Even if you got them on the aforementioned prawn. This is the worst advice ever and the opposite is true.

Every one above has it spot on. Except for one
It's justa couple of days fishing. You get to see some one else fish. You can learn something or not . Key is and must be an important factor. Fish for fishing's sake, if you take home a prize even better. There are a few guys out there that fish for a win. You will see them and you will learn that they are not good to fish with or even near , with thier stupid games , rants and get out of my spot I fished that 5 years ago and didn't see you there !!!! Have fun it's just fishing |

Take it slow and calm... the more relaxed you are the better your fishing and decisions will be... most the time good results will come from good decisions on the day... good decisions about which lure, technique, area to fish, etc, etc only come from time on the water... If you are keen to do well then spend as much time on the water as you can... if you are just in it for the fun and social aspect then treat it that way and you will have a blast!
Don't be scared to have a go... IMO the tourney scene in general is full of top class people... with most being just very keen anglers who love catching fish... don't be scared to ask questions and take in as much as you can absorb... IMO all tournaments are great arenas to learn more about the fish you target and the most productive methods to catch these fish on any given day! All the best with it and have fun! just sign up and turn up on comp day and give it a go you'll know by the end of the day if it's you.. but if you love fishing as much as people on here you'll have a blast and nothing wrong with being a bit competitive I mean at the end of the day it's not called a tournament for nothing..enjoy buddy I know I got the bug..
