Do you double the braid when tying to the leader?

I wonder if those who - like me - do not use bimini etc but use double uni to tie the leader to the braid double the braid or not?

I used to do that double uni exactly like it is described in a bokk I've got but double (and twist a bit) the end of the braid. It goes Ok howvere I've discovered that sometimes the "leader part" of knot does get stucked when I slide it down to the braid part of knot... and I have to re-tie the knot after any substantial fish.

Perhaps the reason is that I double the braid line?

Thanks

Have only ever had to do it with fireline. Dont have to do it now, my knots seem to hold up fine.

I always double when i tie with fireline, just make sure when you pull tight you hold both ends of fireline so it tightens up evenly.

Ive read in magazines that tying a double in braided lines will aid it in not cutting into lighter leaders easily. Many people find that braided lines can cut into lighter leaders when fighting fish. I myself dont tie a double before joining leaders and have only experienced the braid cutting into my leader 3 times outa the 5 years ive been using light braided lines. The double uni knot is a great knot but try using an albright as this knot is much smaller in diameter and flies through your runners with ease. But if you want to be extra careful then go with the double mate just incase you get that big one.

cheers mate and good luck

the only time you need to tie a double (bimini twist) is when you are joining heavier leaders e.g 4lb braid to 12lb leader just to get the thickness of the braid to match your leader because when braid is thin it tends to cut into the mono leader & ofcourse the line gives way... i just use an improved albright its a single knot and the most strongest knot ever it gives you %100........

i keep it simple and only ever use a double uni knot with about twice the turns on the braid than the leader

only time it fails me is when i do something stupid
one thing i have noticed however is how many people fish with a not so great qulity leader
for me i use leaders like siglon and nitlonand never has let me down too often
i even find them better in rubbing than others like vanish
however
with the qulity come the price and for genral knocking around in the leases or haveing a fun fish vanish is good enoght at the price

I find the strongest knot would be the five turn surgeons....It's a little trickier to tie than the albright or double uni, but it evens out pressure without stressing the leader all too much. Casts fairly good also.
