The fireline in 6lbs is no match to Sunline PE 8lbs, as the fireline is a fused braid and the Sunline PE is a woven braid. They are completely two different lines in terms of the feel, construction, stiffness, etc. The 8lbs Sunline is much thinner than 6lbs Fireline, but so much better in terms of castability and wind knot management. Go to the shop and compare them side by side yourself. For a sake of couple of extra dollars, save for a little longer but get a better product. Do what BWJ and BreamBox said before and get an 8lbs Sunline Super PE in 8lbs and thank them later. Cheers |

Everyone bags Fireline but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I've been using the 6lb original for the last 18 months & never had an issue. Never had a wind knot & never had any other issue. I can cast it just as far as any of my mates can cast with thier more expensive briads & just as far as I can cast with 2lb Platypus Super-Braid. I've used it for bream on the flats & 80cm tailor in nasty reef country. If it can do that for me it will serve anyone well for bream & flatties. The Sunline everyone recommends is a great line, performs very well & is good value compared to many of it's far more expensive competitors but there's not one single thing wrong with fireline & anyone that says there is has probably never used it before.
As for a rod, I'm a big fan of the Berkley Dropshots. I've got a 2-4kg & a 3-5kg model & love them both. I tried 2 trions & 2 raiders instore with my reels on them but for me personally, the Dropshot was the one that felt best. My advice, choose & buy the reel you want then take it to the shop & hang it off the rods your interested in to see how they feel to you. Buy the rod that you like the feel of most with your reel hanging off it. |

Save an extra 30 dollars and have a look at the new Daiwa generation black range of rods. Have only heard good things about them especially for the price they are..

I would go 3-4lb fireline over 6lb Sunline any day of the week but would not even consider going fireline over 8lb Sunline If your not used to using braided lines be very careful of using 6lb sunline mate or you are asking for wind knots, 8lb is a much better choice.

I can't find anywhere that's selling them either mate so it's not just you. They sound pretty good but the only info I could find shopping wise is that they are supposed to be available now & are rumoured to be under $200.
