transducer location

hi guys, i was just wondering what is the best location for a transom mounted transducer, i have mine mounted at 20 inches from the motor and i read in the instruction booklet at least 15 inches is required but as soon as my boat gets on the plane a big rooster tail of water sprouts out the top of the bracket that holds the transducer and water goes everywhere, which i think is because the bracket isn't far enough in the water, even some pics would be excellent, especially of 399 prolines

I don't have a proline, but also got a lot of spray when on plane. I installed a home made deflector, by cutting an old plastic container in half vertically ( o I had half cylinder with an open back end)with a flat bottom and mounting it so that it caught the spray and deflected down and away from the boat. I still got a bit of spray but worked out this was coming up behind the plate the transducer was mounted to. a bit of duct tape to seal this bit and not more spray problems.

Not pretty but it works

Hi Mundz,

I have 399 Proline, but don't have a prob with spray coming up. My 'ducer is only 10-12 inches from the centreline (far enough to the side to clear the path of the prop).

I would think it may be a positioning problem. I set mine up so that half of the 'ducer (on the prop side) is below the hull, as per the manufacturers instructions (Garmin).

As above, you can fit a deflector shield above it, just pop rivet some ally angle plate above it, and seal the rivets with silicone. I don't think your problem is uncommon. My mate bought a brand new Streaker 5.85, and they fit a plate above the 'ducer as standard for the same reason...........

Cheers,

Pat

From what i know the trandsducer should be flush with the bottom of your hull.
