Surf Paternoster(plastic+bait)

Although kayak fishing is the majority of my time on the I am once again in the mood for surf fishing because it is that time of year and I want to try a few new things. One of which is the surf paternoster with one hook for plastics and one for bait. I have never had alot of success with paternosters and I don't know why, mabye the way I tie them.I don't know.
Any advice and experience with this sort of rig in the surf and what plastics for the common suspects.

Hey mate. I use a double dropper paternoster rig with bait on one and either a plastic or surf popper on the other. I use this when fishing for salmon in high action surf. With the plastic I pin it through the chin on a normal hook or tie on a squidgy resin head and thread the plastic on the jighead properly.
I've had good success with both plastics and the surf popper, especially if there's small pickers hitting up the bait. You will also find they will get hit as you retrieve the rig to rebait which is a nice bonus.
