Bassaction Landing Nets

So I've been contemplating owning a landing net for a very long while now, after a friend has harped on about a landing net being more than a tool just to retrieve fish safely to shore - but for the fishes welfare and overall safety.

So after putting a call out on BM for peoples thoughts on nets and their ideas, I came to the conclusion that a Bassaction landing net was a good overall / all round net for my style of fishing.

Jumped online and viewed multiple shots and video's of these nets in action and came to the overall conclusion that this will be the net to buy in the end.

Jumped onto "http://www.bassaction.net/" (how fitting a web address)... And viewed his extensive range of nets and I personally just got the Pro Bass Budget landing net which shared all the same features of the others bar for the camouflage garnish that the other nets shared for about $10 more. Some may see value in it however from what I was told all the materials are the same.

So after about 5 days I received the net - it arrived...

Pictures of said net.

Looking into the wedge maw of the net itself, does away as a bucket type net.

Rough relative size of the net in hand. This is the smallest of his nets that he makes.

Cont.

What I did fancy about this net was the hook resistant mesh, the ruler and the overall safety of the net to the fish within regards to its scales and slime.

Folds up neatly and is relatively light for its dimensions.

But that's where things changed...

I ensured that I wrote on the PayPal note when I purchased it to "Please check net also for any defects thanks. "...

While I was looking it over I found that one pop rivet was installed on the LH side of the handle and the other was not there, yet a sharp snapped drill bit was poking out... Sort of ruined my day - I know how petty that sounds...

20160915_194144-1.jpg

Starting to cut the handle out was a exercise and a half, not only was it easy to drill out one rivet - the side with the snapped drill bit was not moving and I couldnt flare the handle as it would crush the net tubes... So Dremel was employed to cut it down...

20160915_194746-1.jpg

You can see the drill bit sticking out of the outer LH tube...

Then I got to the inner sides of the nets hoop, and found not one clean drill hole for the pop rivets but quiet a few...

And said drill bit...

And a small modifications...

Cut the handle down by about 2.5", handle to me was a little too long - yes its going to make dipping the net into the water more involved but hey, I usually used lip grips... Whats the change - not much IMHO.

20160924_150657.jpg

And rebuilt the handle and put two big heavy duty pop rivets in the handle and flattened it differently, I am also going to fill the handle with 2 pac foam at a later date...

20160924_150708.jpg

I also put on a lanyard on, its long and strong enough to whip over my shoulder, wish I cut it maybe 4 inches longer again...

Anyhow, lure knot to the handle tie point, and a hangmans slip noose so that you can wrap it around your wrist or tie it off to a solid point...

In finalising this all off, the bloke from Bassaction Nets, has offered to replace the net, which is a good thing by him and shows that he made a genuine mistake.

No malice in the preceding pictures!

Takes me a while to upload and then edit the commentary between the pictures - the whole uploading and arranging of pictures "sigh"...

Great little net for sure, the net itself is very good quality, the double stitching, the hemming and the quality of the net material is akin to the outdoor furniture padding material itself.

Just a shame that the quality slipped through and I got it, was told to just grind down the drill bits end and use that - the replacement would be sent out soon after.

The owner of Bassaction was pretty easy to talk to and remedy the fact of the matter however.

Just wanting to say that I have used these nets for years and also sold them from my kayak guiding business. I love them and the quality has always been great.

Human error is not acceptable when it comes to a snapped off drill bit

Year 7 metal work taught me that

My business will be going elsewhere

It's not a $500 Japanese made rod or reel, it's a landing net made in Oz and the manufacturer has offered to replace........... Issue??? Can't see one.
But it doesn't surprise me that people on here will judge...

Its been more than a week and still waiting for the replacement...

What I did was review the net, both good and bad and my fix to the issue i was sold.

Nagz has full right to comment and if wantec take his business elsewhere, others will see interest and buy the net due to its quality and usefulness.
