Well the young gun is back with his own hard body mussel vibes.
These things are the shizzle, and the first lure that I have used that have bream hitting the lure many times and not shying away after first touch.

Big fish just inhale them... they cast like a bullet, have the perfect flutter on the drop and vibe on the lift.

Haha - Dowelly is still showing off his "Mussels"

Jeez - Great fish - Hes done a bloody good job on those lures. - They look like big bream snacks - no doubt.

Very innovative stuff - get Dowelly on here to talk us through the design and how he chose his sizes, materials and a mussel as a lure.

I'd be super interested to hear the thought processes behind it.

Our local bream lose their minds over mussels - the bottom of the live well was often covered in crushed mussel they had coughed up. And a sneaky bit of mussel scent was never a bad idea

I might even have a tweak for him to make them even more irresistible.

I remember hearing a story of whiting pouncing on feeding mussels and quickly sucking their guts out - not sure if its true but a slightly open, feeding mussel, will show off its contents, make it a slightly easier target and prove its worth hitting

Actually it looks like some Vicco’s are already taking advantage.

Yeah they will be handy in amongst our pylons - we've got more than you can poke a stick at

4.5grams, 5.7gram and a heavy 7.2grams which will be put through its paces on the deep and flooded Clarence River ABT grand final this month.

I showed the lure on another site and someone asked how you work the lure - Do you retrieve it just like a blade or vibe or do you cast into structure and dead stick it for ages.

Those mussels looks bloody spot on, as Larry said I'm intrigued by the method of fishing them, so give us the drill.
Are they hollow plastic like a vibe?

HI Larry,

I love working these with any current available.
Letting them drift past the front of snags, pilons, pontoons and boat hulls. The key with these lures is watching the line.
They are not like a conventional lure were you feel a sharp tick. What you will find is your line rattling or just starting to take off.

Another technique i have found works great is 'feathering' the lure while on the bottom. Sharp but small and soft lifts and letting it sit on the bottom again.
They key to this is to have the lure falling as much as you can during a retrieve in the strike zone. You will get most fish on the first drop when fishing against structure.

What gives me great confidence is that by taking the lure this way they believe its a mussel.
Feeding bream mussel fouling at my previous employment I watch as the big bream will crash through, grab a mussel and swim off to crush and eat it in peace.
I have found that most of the time both trebles are hooked on each side of their mouth, as they have cradled it in their mouth (marks bream photo is a great example)

I have also found that fishing these lures is areas were mussels don't frequent is almost better then plentiful areas.
A bream would have to be living under a rock to not know what a mussel is. So when a big breeder is upstream and spawned out, recovering on a big lay down and watches a mussel drift past.. they jump at the opportunity for a rich protein snack.

Availability for these lures will improve during next year. Currently my rough wait time is over a month.
However I am keen to reward the guys that have stayed true to this forum in the form of a cue jump :P
