Prob best to leave this alone there is a lot of controversy and the people involved would rather forget about it , it's done and dusted don't take offence to that either man please cheers

All in all the grand final was an awesome event and congrats to emu and Sean for taking out the titles

My thoughts have always been you accept the tournament directors ruling whether you agree with it or not, I personally would have fished on even if I was unhappy about it all and thought I had a case .

Why the secrecy about who was DQ'd? and the reluctance to discuss it?

What other sport would the organisers DQ someone without publicly announcing who and why? Are they worried they will offend the people involved?

It just seems an odd way to handle it to me.
I'd love to hear the story of what happened from the event organizers.

There was no secrecy - it was explained in detail on the ABT (Australian Bass Tournaments) Facebook page as soon as the decision was made and it was discussed with all of the anglers via the PA system before the start on Day 2.

After that, ABT focussed on the positives of a great event and moved on.

Fair enough Steve, I saw the post about some disqualifications but I didn't see who it was, maybe that was another post that I missed.

ABT isn't in the business of naming and shaming. Some of the DQs are accidental and some were NBs who had no say in it.

If you really wanted to find out, you could deduce it from the scoreboard.

Steve, one thing is "naming and shaming", another thing is to list the anglers who were DQ'd. What's wrong with that?

The ABT should be in business to be completely transparent and call things what they are whether somebody likes it or not.

One thing that bothers me as a non-boater - I would hate to be on the boat of the offending boater. As a non-boater, it is not my responsibility to know all of the Maritime laws of the waterway I am fishing the ABT tournament at.

However, the ABT put all the DQ'd anglers in one basket making the non boaters guilty by default.

I can see the reasoning why the ABT acted that way as the format of the GF is 5 fish combined bag, however, the ABT needs more work to increase the awareness of the anglers in what instances they may be DQd.

Like posting in the website the areas of "No Go" similar to the Marinas you mentioned including the river jetties that are excluded from fishing by the Port Authority to make Rules more understandable.

Or at least to post "in addition to the "No Fishing" and "No Go" exclusion zones identified by the ABT, the boaters MUST obey all the restricting signs clearly posted on the jetties or a structure by the Maritime Authority".

At least this may trigger the attention of the boaters that it is their responsibility to comply.

This is something that gets mentioned at the Vic Bream Classics briefings if we are fishing a Melbourne round as, understandingly, it is almost impossible to list all the restricted areas of the venue.

Also the ABT should have a process of appeal in place to at least hear both sides of the story.

We all are for being fair in our sport and this should apply to both the anglers and the ABT organisation.

Hope it all makes sense.
Cheers

I don't think ABT needs to start holding peoples hands. If you are the master of a vessel on any waterway, you should be aware of all restrictions relating to that area, end of story. It is all readily available on intergoogle, so there is really no excuse. Feel sorry for the non boaters, but the boaters involved made a mistake, they need to get over it and look forward to the 2016 season.

Do you need the police to remind you to obey road signs?

I can't begin to imagine what being disqualified feels like, but there is no excuse for not knowing the restrictions of the water you're fishing.
