Whiting on lures

2 days ago i started using lures for whiting, and in an hour and a half i hooked about 8 whiting and a good sized salmon, out of the 8 whiting i pulled the hooks on five and lost the salmon.
I was using the bassday sugapen but i did not upgrade the hooks?
My questions are what size trebles should i upgrade to, and if i change the trebles will it affect the lures action?

Any help would be awesome

what size trebles come standard on the sugarpen hotshot?
if you want to target whiting specifically try number 14's or 16's on your hard lures. these are small enough for whiting and still strong enough for bream.

thanks for the reply
I'm not really good at naming hook sizes, they are a bit bigger than the ones on the stiffy popper and they are thicker trebles than the ones from owner.

If you do buy new trebles make sure to get the fine hook trebles. They well hook the fish alot easier and better the amount of fish you'll catch

try the area around the two islands and the shallows at okey. anything from1 to 4ft in the basin where theres patchy sand and weed will produce whiting. as for lures try tawadi's, whiting find the small prawn-like profile irristable. poppers also work nev 40 to 50mm will do the trick. feathered rear trebles go good. twitch it along with a few pauses then when you see a swirl behind the lure wind slowly and if it's whiting they'll fight over the lure till one grabs it, now that the prawns are on it shouldn't take you long to work em out.
we want to see the pics when you do too mate
