Painted Heads

Hi everyone, Hope your all well ??
Fished thursday and friday this week. Did well with 3 Bream on Soldier crabs in a eddy, Dirty water run out tide . 1 Tailor and 6 flathead. Plus a few undersize fish.On lures .
Painted Jig Heads. A while ago there was a push to use coloured jig heads. Did anyone paint theirs and was it worth it ? A bit of red on the underside could look like the flared gills of an injured fish.
Im thinking I have the nail polish and 3 grandkids. A bit of craft ?? Howard.

Sound like a great activity for the grand kids - I'll be interested to see the results

The fad faded quickly so I don't expect any improvement to catch rates, but they look more appealing to the fisherman. !! And it will give me a chance to re sort them into weights !!!!!!!

yeah I've painted a few in the past - but 2 coats of the cheapest spray paint isnt very durable

A hardware guy said lead needs to be primed before it will take spray paint properly

I gave up pretty soon after that

I used to do the powdercoat dip paint. But wasn't a fan of the durability - as I wanted to coat and contain the lead (nasty stuff)...

After being told multiple times that you first heat, dip & coat and then have to migrate them to an oven for further heat treatment just didn't excite me at all...

But to see them done and with eyes, touch o' glitter - they do look well finished...

Mostly natural dull colours, we both agreed that it was the flashiness of the lead that was resulting in fewer fish biting. I have heard of some people hanging the head in water to dull the lead a bit prior to use
