Fishing gallery
I just lost about 45 minutes of typing due to a browser crash (damn you, Opera), so this time I'm not going to bother beating around the bush, per se.
I'm interested in making an online NFP photo gallery, which appeals and is presented, marketed etc to the general public. The purpose of the gallery would be to showcase high quality work from fishos, with the ultimate intent of increasing exposure of c&r and otherwise responsible sportfishing to the general population. Basically, a proactive way of shifting the idealised image of fishermen from cavemen 'kill' squads, to the modern responsible subculture developing of sportsfishers; taking reasonable, sustainable quantities of wild fish for food if so desired, practicing catch and release, using methods of fighting techniques to minimise fish energy output to a point the fish will survive; in gamefishing terms, skilled boating manouvres, appropriate tackle etc etc. You get the idea. Perhaps, if successful, it could even prompt someone to opening a fishing specific art gallery or perhaps artistically inclined fishermen to showcasing their work at art galleries. Looking for constructive criticism, general discussion, anything really. At this stage, it's all very much just an idea that I've decided to put down rather than allow to disappear. I'm completely open minded in this possible project. If anyone can provide any opinion on these questions: What kind of money are we looking at to get an online gallery up and running that is of high enough quality. Would photographers and/or fishermen alike be open to donating bodies of work (sets of images that are arranged and selected to convey some sort of message) to the gallery Would fishing related companies be open to sponsor said gallery and/or provide occasional prizes to people submitting quality content, from the beginning, or is that something to be shoot for after it's well established Do you think it would be effective to promote our public image Do you think that could help us as a whole have a louder political voice Would you spend a couple of hours browsing through fishing porn Would you be interested in participating in the running or creation of said online gallery That's about all I can rattle atop my head right now. I could expand, but I think I've got the idea across. I've quite recently gotten out of hospital after lung surgery, so this could all just be the Oxycodone talking, lol. David Hajdu
