Underwater filming in rivers

As the title suggests I plan to try and film bream around snags, rock bars etc if the waters clear enough on an up coming trip down south in the hope of capturing hook ups and bream activity.
The plan is to zip tie go pro 3's to timber and rock and leave them for some time before returning to them to cast at them in the hope that resident bream have taken up lodgings again.I really want to capture the moment a big blue nose crunches my hard body's, want to capture the hunter a 40 plus beast is,
Just wondering who has tried this and if you have any tips on settings to film or tips on how to capture the event.
any advice or help appreciated.

Cheers Steve

Never tried it - But burleying up the snag might help them come back quick and get them in the mood for a feed. Hang a bag just out of view of the camera - and they should be milling around with a hunger on

Charlie did a similar thing Steve, but with Zman grubs.
Maybe give him a PM.

Like wise.
Question however. Presumably you will turn on off via wifi. Does it work underwater?
Just a thought also, would it not be better to place a star dropper or similar out the front of the snag facing back toward it, rather than in it? More coverage of the entire snag.
I hope you are successful mate because it would be interesting viewing.

Wifi doesn't work under water I've tried it before, I tied my gopro on the end of my line and I dropped the camera in. I was amazed how much interest I got from fish. I saw trevs bream and some other fish I don't no there names. It's awesome to see what's down there and please share your footage with us.

The water I'm planning fishing will be a maximum 3ft deep and the camera will only be just sub surface so lm hoping the wifi will still work have to test and see.
Will definitely use pole subsurface when possible too.
May be a disaster but happy to have a crack.

Hey,

I've seen some cool stuff via remote sensing work to gain an idea of fish populations/density and that has worked well. The researchers have used cameras with an attached shutter button that can be operated onboard a vessel /river bank.

I'm not sure if the wifi will work on the go-pro, I know mine is very weak when under anywater...but good luck and I'd be interested to see your results!

Would be awesome to see. Possibly just a big memory card to record the entire time which could be good to see how long till they return would be good info too.

Yeah if the wifi doesn't work then a 32G card running flat chat will do the job... Have a snag lined up that never fails to please on big bream.

Appologies if its a hijack, but what run time do you expect out of a a 32gig card? I can only get around 3hrs from a 64?

The battery will be your biggest trial - due to water temp (seems like cold water is the batteries biggest killer). I time lapsed the recent solar eclipse and the battery was the biggest thing with that - with video just use the 1080P medium not wide to conserve card space.

Will be interesting to see how this goes for you!
