My thoughts on SAS Braid

Just wanted to give a very quick write up on the SAS 6lb braid I used over the break.

It’s crap.

I lost a siglett, a t pivot and a soft shell cicada to this alleged fishing line. Using 4lb leaders the braid broke on two occasions losing me the first two lures. After the first bust off I doubled the braid and tied a doubled improved slim beauty Still broke at the braid. Then I pulled 15m of braid off hoping it was a weak spot and tied a doubled uni knot directly from the braid to the lure. This also broke on a nice fish on the take. Never before have I been so frustrated fishing. I ended up ripping the lot off my spool, grabbing a spool of 4lb leader and spooling up with that. Unsurprisingly I lost neither fish nor lures after I did this.

For the braid to break in your hands while tightening a knot to 4lb leader is a joke. Steer clear of this stuff unless you feel like donating some lures to the fish gods.

FYI I was using about 600g of drag pressure on a 2004 daiwa which has a max drag of 2 kg.

I have used braids from almost all major companies in the past and this by far was the most disappointing. I would have preferred a spool of JW Hercules to this torment.

i found it really poor as well. i had the 8lb and had many random line breakages and wind knots. then changed to toray super strong pe and it was great. sounds to me that there are a few bad batchs going around.

It falls into a similar basket as nanofil knot wise but haven't had any premature failures in the 6 months or so I've been using it. Been using 6lb for bream and 12lb for snaps.

Don't use under 12lb. 6 and 8lb is stupid thin and not worth the hassle. I use 12,15 and 20lb SAS and love it.

I use the 12lb and have had no trouble with it until just the other day when I was throwing around a ZX blade when I cast it and the braid snapped

Sorry to hear you got a bad spool mate. Send it back to Dan and he will refund you or exchange it. I have as yet have not had any breakages in the main line. I do know of some that have and as you had taken some off the spool and it turned out fine.
This is not the only braid out there that can have a bad batch of poorer quality line. I have used Frog, SuperPE, TD Sensor and other braids that have had the same problem. Even Fire line and the Shimano Power Pro have done the same.
What I find strange is that you don't see any if many bad posts about the other gear out there, what's the point? They all have the same issue every now and then. Maybe because SAS is starting to get a following among the fishing community and talked about alot it brings out the tall poppy syndrome in people. I could be wrong. Send the spool back so it can be tested. Now don't think too much in what I'm about to say but if you do send it back and it doesn't break anywhere along its length was there a fault to start with. I could post on here SuperPE breaks all the time etc and people could believe it or not. Get it tested and get your money back easy.
For a small player new to the market against bigger companies it is doing well for itself. Some hiccups along the way, sure, but has anyone taken back a spool of something else to where they bought it and been refunded? I haven't ever and I have bought alot of differing braids over the years and have not been refunded by the retailer. Talk to Dan and I'm sure you will. Cheers Gav.

Nothing wrong with honest feedback, sounds to me like there is a manufacturing or QA issue that needs sorting out.
