I like the Slim Beauty, or the variation with the Uni knot in the braid thru the leader Figure 8 etc.

Only problem is that in any leader size smaller than 6 pound the figure eight from the double granny knot is so tiny I can't thread the braid thru it, esp in the wind in a rocking boat.

Anyone got any suggestions for the figure 8 - I figure I must be doing something wrong?

Cheers

Mick.

Hi mate

It's hard for me aswell, especially when trying to tie on 3lb! I don't think were doing anything wrong I think it's just the knot.

Mick, try a three turn overhand knot rather than two. The figure 8 forms earlier, giving you a wider opening to feed the braid through.
Works for me without compromising the overall "Kaneit" knot strength.

Cheers

I haven't tried the 3 turn overhand knot, but will it as seems a good solution, and may even make the knot stonger.
What I have done in the past is just the normal overhand knot but when the circle of line is below the line (below the knot part), I just push it up the circle of line that you are tightening down, in the middle so that there are now two sections above (either side to the knot), effectively forming the figure 8 early.

Have used all knots and have found that all of them weaken over time banging on guides. So just check them every so often. Have found the the slim Beauty last the longest but I still check everytime I retie a lure or when I satrt a session

Anyone use this knot?

Part 1
Part 2

I've tested it a couple of times against a Slim Beauty and it's beat it every time.
It's a little bulkier but easier to tie.

Good knot, a little bulky though. I tried it before but was losing lures on the cast

Only Royter could stretch such a simple knot tutorial to 10 minutes

Thats what i use - 5 turn Surgeons knot; does the job for me, simple and quick to tie - can't go wrong.

Problem with the surgeons is having to cut off the leader first, but it's a very quick knot to tie.
TIP:Go straight to the second video, he talks for the entire 5 mins of the first. Just show me the knot dude!

Thanks again Alex! Going to give both these puppies a run - but will still do the former knot on my bass and heavier SW fishing.

Cheers Mick.
